I want to hear your reasons for why you believe....

Leave the doubts for another time, and just let me know what gives you reason to believe in what you do.

If quoting scripture, please put reference and link if the quote is longer than two lines, thanks!

Please put your reply in point form, so we can COUNT them all, and find out the 100th one!

And please star this Q so everyone, of all faiths, can give us reasons for their beliefs...

:-)

Thanks everyone!

It really bothers me. Like, someone will use perfect grammar and punctuation yet they spell the word "straight" with the number eight.

Am I missing something?

Serious question.

There are multiple testimonies of people who have turned from the catholic church to become "Born Again" the majority of these tend to be from people who were born catholic and later left the church.

the distinguishing characteristic is that most is not all do not have an real understanding of Catholicism.

On the other hand the people who convert to catholic from Protestand movements tend to have an in debth understanding of the protestant tradition and then develop a deep understanding of the catholic faith.

There are thosands of evangelical pastors who when they understand the catholic church properly come to the conclusion (by gods grace) that much of what they were thought and thought others was completly false.

So it would apear that converts to evangelical churches go there through ignorance and those who become catholic do it from a place of faith and wisdom.

Do you agree??

This might sound silly to you all...but it can be confusing to me. Is it politeness to join the conversation, or is it politeness to let them have their own conversation and not participate.

What if their conversation involves something strong like "my house was flooded". Am I expected to say something, or just let them be.

What would you do?

Yesterday we had a massive row. While I was having a shower, my wife entered the bathroom to cut her toe nails on the toilet. She then asked me if I would take her shopping and I foolishly said that I rather stick my head in a food blender than go in the shops with you.

Unexpectedly, she ran towards me screaming and kicked me so hard in my privates. I was floored in agony.

Where's the best place to shop for bathroom locks????

Would you say that every person who has had to recite the "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help you God?" is condemed?

Matthew 5:34-37
34But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God's throne:
35Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.
36Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.
37But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. (KJV)

they have a relationship with Jesus. As if they have a personal saviour etc etc.

From a catholic perspective are they deluded.

Its clear from that the bible was not meant to be the sole authority for followers of Jesus.

The church is the pillar of truth from which to reveal the bible to people.

Doesnt 2 thes 2:15 say to hold on to oral tradition as much as the bible.

So evangelicals claim that they have some sort of personal or superior relationship with their creator at least from their perspective.

However the potential is there that they dont have a relationship at all because they have not been correctly thought the bible. So what do catholics think of this whole relationhip theory

free will

n
power of independent action and choice: the ability to act or make choices as a free and autonomous being and not solely as a result of compulsion or predestination

Many people who answered my last question suggested that because I did a certain thing and I chose to do that thing that I have free will. But how can you be sure that choice is not an illusion? Just as when you let go of an object in the presence of the earth's gravity it will fall, could not all things act in the same way if we were smart enough to understand them. These laws, these actions that take place the same way under nearly the same exact circumstances give existence it's livable predictability. If you live around people you migh notice that they have their habits and predictabilities.

I consider myself a lapse Catholic but refuse to give up my religion based on that I think most of the morals I have are because of my faith but can't help but be terribly dissapointed when I hear about how the vadican spends money on non-humanitian issues and the molestation cases. Will the church rise above this.

please let me know what you think.

I keep seeing peoples answers that Jesus is God, correct me if I am wrong, but I thought that Jesus was Gods only begotten son and that believing in him and accepting Jesus as their personal savior, meaning he died for them, that through him they can speak to God. As with my son, I am in my son, my husband is in his son, but our son is not in us but a part of us, so Jesus in essence would be a part of God, but not God, no where I can think of does Jesus say "Worship me".

"The premise behind this argument is that if a claim is unprovable, then it’s in the same category as everything that is deliberately made up or fictionalized. However, not only is this false and a mere play on words, but it is a complete straw man argument because it falsely redefines the opposing position in terms that make it more easily attackable, using false comparisons."

I actually heard a creationist say this. He actually argued that without devine intervention, hydrogen cannot form more complex elements and that elements cannot form into more complex molecules. We have already proven that hydrogen atoms can form more complex elements through nucleur fusion, which is a process that has been observed in nature without any intelligent intervention. And to say that elements cannot form into more complex molecules is to show that one has never taken a basic chemistry course. What happens when put metal in water?????
