I want to hear your reasons for why you believe....

Leave the doubts for another time, and just let me know what gives you reason to believe in what you do.

If quoting scripture, please put reference and link if the quote is longer than two lines, thanks!

Please put your reply in point form, so we can COUNT them all, and find out the 100th one!

And please star this Q so everyone, of all faiths, can give us reasons for their beliefs...

:-)

Thanks everyone!

How about just one tiny little bit of evidence that the power you believe in actually exists?

2007-08-01 09:09:23 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 0 5

Conviction from living the truth.
Conviction and faith carry personal Power to do and help one perform beyond one's own normal capacity.

I found as a young lad, even before becoming LDS, that as I lived what Jesus taught, I succeeded; and through the Holy Ghost, God taught me more and opened my understanding even further - quite sober stuff for only a 9 and 10 year old!

I became unbeatable in sports interests, and virtually in other things as well, such as board games and even cleaning the dishes!

I learnt the sheer power of self-sacrifice for the general betterment - 'altruism', you might call it.

I also learnt peace and contentment, by following the teachings of Hesus; I lived at peace with myself, by "doing the right thing'.

As I became LDS, I enlarged on that - especially, via testimony by the Power of the Holy Ghost.

Happiness, contentment and peace all lived together in my soul.
Overall, I also found i was healthier, by not partaking of harmful substances.
I found that by using good and respectful language, I also gained the respect and often, admiration of others - whether religious or otherwise.
People often came to me for advice.

The reasons why I believe are many and varied. Some of the main reasons why I believe are because of the experiences that I've had.
Moroni tells us why to believe in Chap 7. He says that god is a god of miracles and that if miracles have ceased it is because of the unbelief of men . So I believe so that God can still work miracles in the world.

Before you ask what is the 100th reason to believe, you must ask first how can we acquire faith. Because having faith is believing in something you do not see.

Hebrews 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

There is so little I believe in without evidence.
I believe in meditation because I meditate and things happen. They seem to be going in a direction I feel OK with.
I believe in Karma and rebirth because nothing else makes sense or seems fair to me.
I believe in the love of my friends because I see it in their eyes and in their actions.
I believe that there is much pain and hatred in the world - look at the answers on R&S.

Hi Mumof4,

I have one main reason for believing what I do:

Because it makes me happy.

I don't need evidence to prove to someone else that I'm right. I know that I just may be wrong, yet I choose to believe anyway, because it is what makes my life worth living.

Blessings,

Vitamin

John 4:16......And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.
Verse 17...Herein is our love made prefect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgement; because as he is,so are we in this world.
Verse 18.....There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear;because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
Verse 19......We love him, because he first loved us.
