Please read the whole thing before you answer, it may be a little long but bear with me, okay?

A few months ago, I was on the cash register and I had a man come in to pay for some items. I ring him up as with everyone else, and when I was finished I told him his total. After he got his money ready he extended his hand so i went to recieve his money and instead of handing it to me he just drops it next to my hand (for some reason the customers I get seem to feel they are above handing me the money and fling it at me as if I'm a dog). I do his transaction and I put his change on the counter. Instead of just taking his change and leaving, he threatens "excuse me, are you going to pick up my change and put it in my hand". I swear, by instinct, I page the manager. I told him he didn't hand the money to me and he's like "it doesn't matter". My manager goes over to him and he starts going on about how the customer is always right and if I don't like what he has to say then he can take

In light of the fact that the Roman Catholic Church, Los Angeles Archdiocese, just settled its clergy abuse cases for at least $600 million, by far the largest payout in the church's sexual abuse scandal, is it hypocritical for them to denounce Giuliani as a corrupted Catholic politician. Should the church not concentrate on their own shortcomings before commenting on others. Does not the bible say "do not say brother let me get the speck from your eye when a plank comes out of your own. (paraphrased)?" Is there not separation of church and state?

Since religious belief goes 'poof' under the glaring light of critical thought, it is obvious that critical thinking ability is a rare commodity in the USA. In fact, I dare say that most of the adult population of the USA has never even HEARD of critical thinking... much less, actually know how to do it. This is not surprising, though... the US public education system is designed to create 'employees'... not 'thinkers'. It is even possible to get an advanced degree in a scientific discipline, and STILL never encounter the concept of critical thinking... that being in the 'fuzzy' sciences... in the 'hard' sciences, critical thinking is a necessity.

Anyway... IQ tests are an indicator of critical thinking... at least potential, if not actual ability. I think that elections would produce better results if everyone was allocated a number of votes based on this formula: Votes = IQ x Age. Heck... it might even become possible to elect an Independent as President, using this idea.

i found this on a website and i thought it was pretty interesting. the whole article is at http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/god19.htm if you want to read the whole article.

Norm: If Jesus is God, why didn't Jesus ever prove that he is God?

Chris: He did! He performed many miracles, and he was resurrected. That proves that he is God!

Norm: Why did he not prove that he is God in a way that is definitive and scientifically provable -- for example, by moving a mountain?

Chris: He could not do that! That would take away man's free will to believe in him. People must come to God through faith.

Norm: Why, then, did Jesus perform the miracles described in the Gospels?

Chris: To prove that he is God. If he had not done the miracles, culminating in his final most miraculous resurrection, we would not know that he is God.

Norm: I thought that if Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was God, then it took away our free will.

Chris: No.

Norm: Isn't that what you just said?

I was looking at an episode of HORIZON (the British version of the PBS show NOVA), and it talked about Michael Drosnin, the author of THE BIBLE CODE. Apparently he claimed that the Jewish year corresponding to 2006 would be a year full of world disasters and nuclear holocaust. You can have a look at at least the first few minutes of this show. This is of course an illegally stored episode of a copyrighted series, so if you are an ethical person you must never, ever, ever click this and run it:

Other than culturally identifiable religious symbols, such as bindis, khimār, crosses, yarmulke, pentagrams and the like.

What do people wear that publicly identifies (or hints at) their spiritual and/or religious beliefs.

For example, I am a man who has both ears pierced (and has for over 20 years). My reasons for wearing earrings is that I feel strongly that it is ridiculous to make assumptions about people based on appearances.

What do you wear that has significance to you, and how does it identify you to a larger community?

inspired by the above question.

Do you think non-Christians should have their freedom of religion taken away ?

Do you think the gov't should give preferential treatment to Chirstians ?

If the senate can be opened with Christian prayer, can the senate also be opened with a non-Christian prayer ? Or should ONLY Christian prayers be allowed, as so many Christians have suggested.

Should students in public schools be allowed to pray ? All religions or only Christian ?

Wiccan students have been suspended from schools while Christian students were allowed to wear their crosses. Do you agree with this ?

The gov't gives money to Christian organizations to provide social svcs that consist mainly of evangelising. Bush has flat out stated that Wiccan organization won't be eligible to run social services with tax payer $. agree ?

now, i am a young atheist, and i may not have enough proof or research to back up what i ask, but this was just a thought that came across my mind. i have never read the bible, i don't know exactly what it says, but has it ever occured to any of you that maybe the bible was just meant to be a book? a book that people read and fascinate over such as any other book? but maybe somewhere down the line, people took a deep belief in it and people started to believe in everything the book said. i'm not saying that did happen, but what if it did? then all of this 'discrimination of religion' was all nonsense. that was just a thought that came into my mind. feel free to discuss about it, but please try not to bash other people or me. thank you.

This is a excerpt from a response given by a relatively new Y/A user... I think it makes a clear picture of why some people are encouraged by science and disenchanted with religion.

What do you think?

"The thing about science is that it doesn't claim to know the answers to everything. Religion does. Science on the other hand works at obtaining knowledge. When it makes mistakes, it acknowledges the mistake, corrects it, and moves on. Religion does not." (Thank you, Jacquelyn)

......... and not be moved by what is written about Jesus? How can one read of His words, His parables, His miracles, His death .......... His love for His disciples and for those torturing Him and not believe that He is who He claimed to be, the Son of the living God, the Savior of the world? These were eye witness accounts even of His miraculous resurection.

And if you say, "Those are just words written 2,000 yrs ago" then doesn't that say something to you that they have survived for 2,000 yrs? That this man changed the world? That even time stops and begins around him? (BC - AD) Could it be that when Atheists say they read the bible that they only read the old testament or parts of it and not one of the most compelling books in the bible?

I mean no insults to anyone. I love you all. It's just hard for me to fathom. All people are welcomed to answer.
