Diana. This is not a right and wrong issue. No matter which choice the bus driver chooses, they do it to save lives. Both choices would be right. On the one hand, if the passengers were not self absorbed, they might think that their sacrifice was a noble one. They'd be right. On the other hand, the pedestrians families might look at the incident afterwards and say that their relative would have gladly lain down their life to save the bus passengers (providid that they weren't selfish either), another noble act. Also, if this case went to court, the bus driver would not even be found guilty of so much as manslaughter, provided that those were, indeed his only two choices.

Now, all that being said, this situation ceases to be a 'right and wrong' situation and it becomes a 'triage' situation. Nobody likes the guys that make these decisions, but, oftentimes, if they don't make one at all, everybody dies. Decision making gets tricky. It's not as easy as it looks. But with practice......

I believe in right and wrong, but I will admit that there are gray areas. Please note, I am not saying it is all a gray area, but there are gray areas.

Basically, I think if it harms someone for no good reason (ie: self defense, etc) it is wrong, if it harms no one it is not wrong.

We run into gray areas when people decide what a good reason for harming someone is.

I think the golden rule provides a good starting point for determining right and wrong.

Right and wrong can get very complex at times.

Example: A bus is careening towards a group of people, out of control. The same number of people are on the bus. You are the driver and have a choice... go off a cliff and kill everyone on the bus, or careen into the group of bystanders, who would all be killed, but those on the bus would be safe...

How easy is this...

You're so cute....first you ask the question, then you answer it!--- I will put my two coppers in just for fun....I think that anything that brings harm to another or to yourself is wrong. I try to live by this and sometimes it can be hard. But doing the right thing is sometimes inconvienent and often very difficult.

There are universe rights and wrong, we need only look at God's Ten Commands. Mankind doesn't have the knowledge to create laws that last forever but God Does.
One should not steal-should this be forever?
One should not kill-should this be forever?
One should not lie on other people-should this be forever?
What's so amazing about the Ten Commandments is you can government not only your family but a world with just Ten Commandments.-(Amazing)

No. Right and wrong are absolutes. God gave the Ten Commandments and they still are the measuring stick for right and wrong. Many people today think there are reasons to steer to the left (and I do mean left) but God makes His ways clear and distinct. He gives exact directions for living and when we follow His directives, we live life to the fullest.

What's your question? And, if it is "Are right and wrong abstract", the answer is yes, they each have subjective meanings, and they are abstract, because of human's being moral, abstract thinkers. And you probably should not be a therapist if you think you've just remedied the problems of the world with your solution.

The difference between right and wrong is all perception and perception is relative.
