This is a excerpt from a response given by a relatively new Y/A user... I think it makes a clear picture of why some people are encouraged by science and disenchanted with religion.

What do you think?

"The thing about science is that it doesn't claim to know the answers to everything. Religion does. Science on the other hand works at obtaining knowledge. When it makes mistakes, it acknowledges the mistake, corrects it, and moves on. Religion does not." (Thank you, Jacquelyn)

religion has always claimed to know the answer to the ultimute question and has always draged its heels to change it's ideas. ironically, out of changing ideas of society and science, it has needed to keep up with trends in order to be aceptable to it's followers. as well as retain some semblense of respectability.

There is an erroneous assumption that Jacquelyn makes in her statement. Religion does not claim to have ALL of the answers to everything. What a generalization! That just is not so. So you and Jacquelyn need to acknowledge your mistake, correct it, and move on. :-)

The example is a boast that science is greater than Religion--it sounds rather juvenile. It is a statement against Religion

Makes sense to me, (but then I get blasted from all sides because I see Divinity in science as well as nature.) It is a very well spoken answer and I always appreciate those!

That is someone's opinion and not a fact. Did you ever consider that most of the time science and religion are not even working on the same problem. When you are trying to improve the damage you've done to a relationship with your kid, physics doesn't help as much as reaching out to their heart through God.

If that were the case then religion would NOT have changed as much as it has over the years. Further many many scientist are believers, and vice versa. So...hmmmm.
