i found this on a website and i thought it was pretty interesting. the whole article is at http://whywontgodhealamputees.com/god19.htm if you want to read the whole article.

Norm: If Jesus is God, why didn't Jesus ever prove that he is God?

Chris: He did! He performed many miracles, and he was resurrected. That proves that he is God!

Norm: Why did he not prove that he is God in a way that is definitive and scientifically provable -- for example, by moving a mountain?

Chris: He could not do that! That would take away man's free will to believe in him. People must come to God through faith.

Norm: Why, then, did Jesus perform the miracles described in the Gospels?

Chris: To prove that he is God. If he had not done the miracles, culminating in his final most miraculous resurrection, we would not know that he is God.

Norm: I thought that if Jesus performed miracles to prove that he was God, then it took away our free will.

Chris: No.

Norm: Isn't that what you just said?

Chris: No. What I just said is that Jesus' miracles prove that he was God.

Norm: So why didn't Jesus perform real, concrete miracles like moving a mountain?

Chris: Because that would take away our free will.

first off, 'answer man', i am not saying that i 'fell' for this 'conversation'. even in my title i quoted 'arguement'. and as for me getting a life? how bout you get your own. i'm not the one coming on here bashing people about what they believe in, i was just posting what i thought to be an interesting topic, knowing that most christians i know put up this fight. and for the person who posted above him, i don't enjoy being told to 'grow up' when there's many people on this site -- not saying any names -- who need to grow up! you people say i need a life? do us all a favor and stop bashing people who don't deserve it. just because i believe in something and the fact that i am young does NOT give you the right to size me down! according to the bill of rights, we as americans have our right to free speech! so i would appreciate it if their was no more bashing.

I think I have had a very similar conversation with a few of the god nuts out here. Smoke, mirrors, and the ability to defy reason and logic, it's quite the skill.

This is the dumbest example of an debate. I have seen, heard, and made much better debates and points than the one example you showed. Chris is dumb and don't know left from right. Norm should have been debating with me! This retardation doesn't speak for all Christians.

==========

Edit!

"who need to grow up! you people say i need a life? do us all a favor and stop bashing people who don't deserve it. just because i believe in something and the fact that i am young does NOT give you the right to size me down!"

Most people aren't "down sizing you" because you think differently as far as religion but because of your lack of intelligence. Like what is the purpose for this question? And to top it off look at the example you chose. Not the brains of a pure genius :)

I'm around your age and I'm not as foolish as you. But good luck anyways :)

Lola, i'm effective thousands and thousands of human beings sense the form you do, or have at one time or yet another. For a on an identical time as while i became a young person, i assumed there'll possibly not be a God yet i became a young person and nonetheless residing at residing house. My mother and father have been religious Catholics, so no way became I going to broach the project with them; it would purely reason a combat, and that i became in many situations skating on skinny ice with them because it became (issues are completely greater suitable right this moment). yet although i finished going to Mass I continuously form of believed in God and that i nonetheless do; I purely have confidence greater right this moment subsequently of my own reports. yet while i'm incorrect, i'm not lacking a lot, through fact i'm residing precisely an identical way i might stay if i did not have confidence in God. I guess various human beings ask your self sometimes all their lives. so which you're form of on the traditional non secular progression music, i might say. that's not a determination you ought to stress your self to make each time quickly. As you become previous and notice greater of life, i think of the form you notice non secular concerns will calm right down to in spite of it seems to be. So do not rigidity. non secular progression (for loss of a greater suitable term) is a lifelong technique. each and every thing will finally end up the way it is going to. BTW, as a Catholic ,you understand it rather is the 1st and oldest branch of Christianity. Catholics are Christians, lest all and sundry is puzzled on the region. We worship purely God, no person else. And we don't thump Bibles. a lot of human beings do not even own them; we've not any requirement that contributors learn the Bible in any respect. We thump catechisms.

Even if Jesus had moved a mountain, they wouldn't have believed. His miracles showed he was who he said he was, and how it will be in God's kingdom. They were enough to prove it to people who sincerely were searching for the truth.

a ridiculous and shallow argument on both sides - you really think anything those two idiots said proves/disproves the existence of a god - only physical proof which has never been given will do. To say Jesus performed miracles because some book says so is more idiotic that i have words for.

Sound like the atheist played the Christian like an attorney - you know, used his words against him. Maybe the Christian could have choosed his words better. In any event this is the way it really went down in the Bible, with JC himself taking part in the debate:

Matthew 12-38:40
38Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.

39But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:

40For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Please wise up.
The "conversation" you refer to is fiction.
It is the conversation that the bigots behind your site would imagine might happen.
How sad that you fell for it.
How sad for you to waste your time trying to undermine the faith of others.
Find a hobby, volunteer, do something constructive.
Get a life.

Stop the bashing??????
You are the one coming on this site and to this board to post something which is intended to belittle or question the faith of others. Freedom of speech? Yes, but even you ask to stop the bashing. If you mean it, stop being a silly ignorant hateful child and mind your business. If you have a faith, practice it. If you don't, then leave others with faith to themselves. If a Christian "tries to convert you", tell them you aren't interested and move on. Grow up. Stop attempting to hurt others and then claim you are innocent of it.

It is most frustrating to have constructed a logical trap that is wider than the limits of your victim's perception. It snaps shut and he doesn't even notice.
