For many, the thought of Friday the 13th not only leaves goose bumps but an uncommon dread for the days' upcoming events. While I am not superstitious, many people are. It is said "we fear what we do not know".

How many of you know the true origins of Friday the 13th? 10 points to the correct answer.

I live in Australia and am very confused about the word n****r used in American culture. In Australia aboriginals more commonly call each other cuz- like cousin. I watched an episode of Oprah where she asked some black actors and a rap star why they used the word and they said it was a loving word. I agree with Oprah when she said there is too much hatred and history attatched to the word for it to ever be attatched to love. If it shows love from one black person to another, and yet for some reason some black people dont like it when "some" white people say it, I do not understand how a word can mean so much love and be so offensive????? Why not just erase it all together???

"Do not envy one another; do not inflate prices one to another; do not hate one another; do not turn away from one another; and do not undercut one another, but be you, O servants of Allah, brothers. A muslim is the brother of a muslim: he neither oppresses him nor does he fail him, he neither lies to him nor does he hold him in contempt. Piety is right here-and he pointed to his breast three times. It is evil enough for a man to hold his brother muslim in contempt. The whole of a muslim for another muslim is inviolable: his blood, his property, and his honor."

The founding fathers where againts having one religeon over all

The Treaty of Tripoli (the Treaty of Peace and Friendship) November 4, 1796
Article 11, reads:

"As the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion"

Pledge of allegiance September 7, 1892
I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all,
MODIFIED AND CAMPAIGNED BY The Knights of Columbus in New York City(Catholic organization) to include the words "under God" finally Charles Oakman (R-Mich.), introduced a bill to that effect February 8, 1954, Rep

"In God We Trust" is the current national motto of the United States and also the motto for the state of Florida. It was declared as such by an act of Congress in 1956
Placed on United States dollar bill in 1957
So the notion that of America being a Christin nation founded under Christian law is totally false

I think no matter what you call "God", be it Buddha,or Alla or Jesus if you have religion, and spirituality then you have LOVE in your heart, not hate or disliking for people who dont see things the way you do or your father did, that is why we are a modern society, because we are all human and we need to learn to co exist or soon there will be no world to exist in....can I get a Woot woot, and ayemen or somethin out there?

I'm currently writing a book about living in modern society and am now at the point of discussing religion but don't want to just express my own atheist beliefs... so was wondering what makes you believe, or not believe, in a God (of any religion).

Most people are raised to believe what their parents did, but how do YOU know it's the truth? I'm not asking you to prove that God exists, such a thing would be almost impossible, but what makes YOU believe he does.

Any answer welcome.

I live in a loud apt complex and am woken up at least several times a month at 3am and I don't know what else to do, aside from moving out.

I also try to approach the noisy parties first and ask them if they can keep it down, but it hasn't seemed to work. When it's happened again, I had no other choice but to complain to the landlord. After the 3rd time this happened, I called the police (but I don't want to keep bothering them). Anyone else have any other ideas (aside from moving) out next time this happens?

I was recently labelled an islamophobic for suggesting that we should stop muslims come into our once wonderful country in light of the recent events.

A phobia is something you are scared off... Im not scared of muslims or islam I simply disagree with everything they stand for so why arent i labelled as 'anti-islamic'?

anti-Christian exists but there is no christophobia!!!

So to all those people out there im 'Anti-Islam' not Islamophobic.

Does this bug anyone else?

I see a lot questions asking about "true" Christians -posed from atheistic thinkers, the agnostic fellowship and those of other faiths.
I like that. And I understand why so many of the best answers are those that support one's intial theory.
What I don't understand though is this:
If you are able to know what a "true" Christian "should" look like or what a "true" Christian is "not", doesn't that say that you know a lot about what a "true" Christian should be, who Christ was, what He taught and His example to us? If this is the case, what is it about Him and His teachings that you reject? If your answer is based on disbelief of His existence is your reasoning for this line of questioning anything other than seeking opportunity to belittle those who think/believe differently than you or to cause division?
***Please note that I am WELL aware that there are many "Christians" who use Christ as a battering ram.
***I'm trying to understand to build better tolerance and wisdom.

One of the most important things that a solider lears in his traning is to be alert. He must be constantly be watching and be on guard for any attack of the enemy. If he fails in this first objective, it could mean a major defeat or even death. As Christians we must always be on the ALERT. We cannot afford toallow the enemy to take us by suprised. Jesus has commanded you to WATCH and PRAY (Matthews 26:41

Lets say youre an atheist who wants to raise children with the same outlook into the world as yours. What happens when your child asks you why the majority of the people in the world believe in a god? Do you tell them the majority of the people in the world are delusional?

What happens if they ask you at a very early age and as a consequence they get the feeling that theyre surrounded by delusional people, that the world is a place full of crazy people, and theyre among the very few who arent? How would that actually make the child feel?

If you dont do any of these, what do you tell your child when they want to know why so many people believe in God?
