Aparently you ppl all think I'm closed minded and I don't blame you because I am very frank and used to being close minded, but to just get it out there in the open: I AM open mided. Now after read like tons of answers, I'm ready for some more. Can anyone give me some good books with good arguements (I need it to be more detailed, precise, and in depth) about evolution (written by an evolutionist) and also any titles of basic books that go over evolution and are not in depth?

When you talk to a theist about their religion how would you describe it? This is how I break it down:

"Hot knife through butter (AKA I've never heard of that before)" 40%
"Brick wall" 30%
"Complete confusion" 15%
"Interesting discussion" 10%
"Come along, children, this is a bad man" 5%

Poor people who live common lives are doing the the normal human thing (being green). Go to a small town in Hungary and what are people doing (being green). This celebrity laden trash where they think they are doing something great for the world is a scam. Only the rich can be excessive pigs, reduce by a little bit, and then consider themselves hero activists. The poor, who are affected the most are being preached to by rich people telling them to use flourescent bulbs. What a joke.

there are about 7 million JW's..Don't you think that this is a very low number to claim that JW's are the only ones to survive Armagedon? ..There are million's and millions of Christains on this earth...7 million is a drop in the hat...You should not go around judging others as not having God's favor..

I am sorry if I made you feel bad, I spent half my childhood in a morom church. My babysitter was mormon. and no I do nor understand why you would worship and pray to joseph smith. in that church there were pictures of him everywherem prayers to say to him and worshipp him. I went back and visted 5 years ago, with that same babysitter, and looked and fear gripped my heart. everything in me was telling me it was wrong and to leave. yes I told these guys I was not interested, they kept commng back. why didnt I call the church? because I never thought of it. they were kids, I do have heart and new they were trying to obey the church the best way they new how. they wasnt even 18 yet. you say you do this because you are worried about our salvation, but what about us worried about your's? you can cut us down and our beliefs but we cant do the same to you? I believe you are wrong and should worshipp the lord our God, not some kid who says he saw an angel and found some tablets.

I know this is going to sound morbid, but last week I attended a memorial service for someone I knew, who went missing.

I guess they presumed this individual dead (even though the body was never found).

After years, there was finally a memorial service, but there was a casket there. Now it was closed, of course, but I couldn't figure out why.

Why would the family purchase a casket with no body, and more importantly, why did I pray to an empty casket?

This situation haunts me, and I'm not sure what to make of it...is this normal?

In John 6:53-54, Jesus says:

"I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."

Is this literally true?

In response to many who have disagreed, I thought we might continue the discussion.

Dualistic perception is not the Truth; it is an illusion formed by mind and duality can and will be transcended, but to speak of experience as dualistic is to refer to this illusion. Experience, itself, is an illusion formed by mind out of Nothingness, and so mind has no unchanging reference for anything it perceives.

For example, if 'darkness' is never experienced, this doesn't mean that an individual will not be able to see objects by the light of the sun, but light will not be a concept that is held in mind. It will have no meaning because there is nothing to define it as a unique condition. Once darkness is experienced, then both conceptual polarities of light/dark arise in the mind together, each defining the other.

This is how ALL perception takes place because this is how mind forms it's perception, as free-floating, self defining pairs. The reality behind perception is irrelevant.

I am an Asian American guy in his 20s who was born and raised in Memphis, TN. Anyway, for some reason, I've never felt comfortable here...I always get the sense that Southern people really don't like anyone that's not White or Black and Christian...also, people seem to assume I'm a foreigner who just got off the boat two days ago. When I went to school in Philadelphia, I never felt out of place or odd, but when I come home, I really do feel like there's a lot of discrimination. I'm not sure if I'm just more sensitive to it bc of the South's history of being overtly racist and bigoted or if it's actually more real down here. I know people are racist everywhere, but I just sense it a lot more here. Why is that? Sometimes I think it's bc there's so little diversity here. I've met plenty of nice, wonderful people in Memphis...but when my family goes to restaurants or to the mall, we always get strange stares...like people think we don't belong in America bc we're not White or Black?

Think about it. No one does what they want anymore, they all follow an idiotic person (paris hilton) and no1 thinks for themselves anymore. Everyone complains about people being fat yet keep giving mcdonalds their money. No one wants to even learn anymore they always want the easy way out then theres people like me who actually like to better myself so i dont understand how come there are so many ignorant people in this world yet it gets worse and worse everyday. Lemmie get some responses on this one.

I think Yahoo should give points for thumbs up and take away points for thumbs down. Sure people would still give wild answers but I think for the most part people would take the questions more serious and only answer the ones they knew.
