I think Yahoo should give points for thumbs up and take away points for thumbs down. Sure people would still give wild answers but I think for the most part people would take the questions more serious and only answer the ones they knew.

I think you should either have to use a point to give a thumbs down, or be able to tell which ID gave thumbs down to which answer.

I have answered every question with as much accuracy & insight from the research I have conducted, and yet I have received thumbs down on some of my questions. In fact, the one answer I gave that was selected as "best answer" from the group received 2 thumbs down, even after I spent extra time researching and verifying my facts. Being an open forum, with people who can be immature or manipulative the thumbs up or down tool could give them leverage to destroy your points. Although I do not personally care about my points, this could have an adverse affect on some people with some real knowledge, possibly limiting our growth in knowledge from their expertise because some nim-wit wants to be mean.

No, because there are some who automatically give you a thumbs down in they disagree with you. I could answer a question, "Do you love God?" with a "YES!" and get thumbs down from 10 atheists. An atheist would answer, "NO!" and get 10 thumbs down from Christians. So that would not ever work, nor should it be considered by yahoo.

Not even a tiny bit...I couldn't care less about points..(though I do appreciate thumbs up,If i present a well thought out answer,or maybe something humorus. I quite often walk willingly into the Lions Den,knowing that I might not be well received,I do so to present and defend the gospel or cause others to think,by ocassionally offering a unique angle in my answer...but mostly I just act like an idiot and am very silly.

That would be OK if people only gave thumbs down to you for giving a bad answer. Instead, thumbs up or down seem to be more about whether or not they agree with your stance - and in THIS category (R & S) there's alot of disagreement!

I'd still keep giving the answers I give.

why should that bother me, I do not answer questions or ask them for the points- I would never change my answers if I knew I would get points taken away or given to me. That is childish- I thought the reason we were here, was to answer truthfully no matter how many thumbs down we get?

Not a bit, but as one already mentioned, my points and level might go down. I love this place! I have taken a little more care than when I first signed on, but not because of points or approval, but because I do not want to be a bad witness for Christianity. I will however, contend for the faith, regardless of how the system works.

I couldn't give a sh!t less about the points/levels,...
... and I never could.

I have been posting on Y!A since it was in BETA, and even then I was a proponent of getting rid of the ridiculous points/levels system,...
... as I felt such a sophomoric system would cause Y!A to evolve into some foolish game fit only for kids and attention-whores...

Guess what?...
...for the most part, - I was right...;-)

Points don't matter to me otherwise I would be a top comtributor by now. I think I would still answer the stupid questions the way I do now, with a stupid answer, but for the most part I do try to avoid the stupid questions anyway. I have to be in the mood for a stupid question to answer it.

I don't think points should be taken away for thumbs down. Some people just give thumbs down because people don't believe like they do.
