and why?

2007-07-02 10:45:20 · 29 answers · asked by corndog 1 in Religion & Spirituality

ok, so i have heard this alot lately "well if i am wrong no harm done. but if you are wrong, your going to hell. do you wanna take that chance?"

first off, what happens if the mormons are right? how about if the jews are right?? you will still go to hell. what happens if the muslims are right, or one of the denominations of christianity that doesnt follow the same guidelines of you is right??

ultimately there is too much variety in religion for you to say that. and to say or believe that is against what your god wants.

having a religion as a back up plan is just ignorant, to say well i dont really know if its true, but hey i love you god and let me go to heaven if its there.

ok so thats the preface, and heres the question.

why do so many christians use the threat of hell to try and convert people??

some christians use jesus' endless love to do it. but on here most just tell us we are going to hell BUT jesus still loves us.

so why do you try and scare to convert

All you Xian right wingers out there...

How would jesus feel about seperating familes and turning away people who are only trying to feed their families ?

Will all the right wing xenophobes burn in hell for their sin of hate and lack of compassion ?
(if there is one, I think they might)

A lie, pretty much by definition, is something that isn't true.

A really good lie is one that SEEMS true, but still isn't.

The best of lies makes the actual truth look false.
__

Assuming for the moment that gods that are out there communicate with people (either directly or through works), how can we tell a truly perfect god from one that is just a perfect liar?

I don't mean later modern interpolations and made up English translations and interpretations, I mean in literal translations.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: somewhere in the sands of the desert
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Reel shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again; but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?

I am a 19 year old Christian man following Jesus Christ. I have been pondering this lately and I just want to hear other christian thoughts on this:

Do you think, as a Christian, I should pursue young women who are more mature in their faith than I or should it not matter? I mean, I naturally am attracted to very godly women but within the ladies that I am attracted to should I take into account their maturity in their faith when I consider asking them out? so in short... Should i take maturity of faith into account when I consider asking a young lady out? If yes, to what extent should it be taken into account? if no, why not?

please do not tell me about psalm 37:4, to be patient, or attack my maturity of faith because i am asking this question. i am sick of asking a question that doesn't deal with my maturity of faith and getting "you call yourself a christian but you don't have faith?" "Just pray about it!" "Be patient!" etc. Please just give me your opinions and pray for me

Tobacco or alcohol?

Tobacco kills but so does alcohol. Why should one be socially acceptable and the other not?

-Them seem very uptight.

-Always looking forward to the end of the world, rather than enjoying the beauty of the earth given to us.

-ever read the "Word and Way", the Southern Baptist paper...all of the infighting,name-calling, back-biting, and legal actions! It is quite sad.

-Have fundamentalist Christians lost sight of God...because they don't seem to be full of the joy that God gives....but, they seem to be full of something else.

Your thoughts?

THEN MUSLIMS BELIEVE TH 12TH INMAN IS MESSIAH WHEN HE WILL BE THE DEVIL???

According to Shiites, the 12th imam disappeared as a child in the year 941. When he returns, they believe, he will reign on earth for seven years, before bringing about a final judgment and the end of the world.

I consider myself to be agnostic. I do believe that there is the possiblity of a higher being, or force or whatever, but I find it unnecessary to follow any religion. As a matter of fact, religion annoys me. What do you think?
