I've read in several places that Catholics make up about 70% of Christians worldwide. (Not in UK or USA, though).

No.
But I'm no authority on the few dozen major Christian religions.

I've learned recently that Catholics (or, at least the official position from Rome) don't take issue with evolution and science. I was surprised to learn this, given the pressure in the US to stop teaching evolution and start teaching that god created the heavens and the earth in 6 days...about 6000 years ago.

Honestly I couldn't tell you but I think some regions of the US have more of one than the other. Like when I lived in the Midwest I knew more fundamentalists but the particular state where I live in New England is most heavily Roman Catholic.

There are a lot more Catholics in the world than there are fundamentalists. Same thing in the US too, although I'm not sure to what degree.

I think Catholics are just one KIND of Christian. I don't think they compose the largest chunk. Just A large chunk.

*edit*

Actually after visiting Wikipedia to see the "numbers" according to Christian denomination, there are more "Catholics" than any other kind of Christian, but as the Talking Donkey said, that's just a plurality.

I just see all Christians as Christians... just like atheists are atheists... I mean isn't asking if catholics are a majority of Christians the same as asking if whites are the majority of Catholics...

No. The catholics I know follow the bible and the church rules the LEAST out of any xtian denomination I've seen. They're the 2nd most hypocritical (besides the fundies), but they don't care, so they're actually the coolest. Maybe thats just my personal experience.

To my knowledge, there is NO majority Christian denomination; but I believe Catholics are the plurality.

No way.

I'm sure some Catholics are fundamentalists, but not all are. And Catholics are just one sect of Christianity, not even the majority.
