-Them seem very uptight.

-Always looking forward to the end of the world, rather than enjoying the beauty of the earth given to us.

-ever read the "Word and Way", the Southern Baptist paper...all of the infighting,name-calling, back-biting, and legal actions! It is quite sad.

-Have fundamentalist Christians lost sight of God...because they don't seem to be full of the joy that God gives....but, they seem to be full of something else.

I don't know if I can be considered a fundamentalist.. I believe in the fundementals of the Bible but I guess I see them differently than the ones you are talking about? I have fun... I DO very much believe in fun and allowing others to have fun as well. I try not to hurt people and I feel like that is the most important thing. The Bible says God will turn my mourning into laughter, and I'd much rather be laughing than yelling and screaming.

I was a evangelical fundamentalist for much of my life. I graduated from an "ACE" school and went into college intending to be a minister. (Yes, my family is still basically fundamentalist and I have had many friends that are and have known many fundamentalists). The problem is not that fundamentalists have "weird beliefs", but that they are rabidly paranoid about any information that contradicts their beliefs and assume that science is against them. This is both better and worse than more "liberal" Christians that are completely clueless about what they believe (or why it is important) and who "happily" think that considering parts of the Bible as metaphor has no effect on their theology. Maybe this is a clearer way of saying what I mean. It is just as bad, if not worse, to modify the basis of your beliefs to accommodate contradicting facts as it is to be willfully ignorant of the facts because they contradict your faith. In the latter case, we can hope that better education will eventually make a dent, but in the first, the delusion is so flexible that it doesn't matter how much of their beliefs are shown to be completely wrong. Edit: Jesus had it right when he talked about people being hot, lukewarm and cold - those in the middle that are clueless about their beliefs or why they think they should believe them, are the most dishonest about believing.

I am sure everyone has fun once in a while. The fundamentalists I personally know have a lot of fun. In fact, I think their family life is a little more fun than most people's. Every holiday they all get together and play games and take trips. Seems like a fun family to be a part of. This speaks for the ones I know the best. I know there are others who have horrible family lives and are fundamentalists.

Why does everyone assume that fundamentalists do not enjoy life and have fun?

Just because someone follows the scriptures literally, as they were meant to be understood, does not mean they do not enjoy life. Quite the opposite in fact. We do not fear death. We do not worry about what tomorrow may bring. We have faith that God will provide, as He has said He would.

Other than not twisting or interpreting the scriptures to fit our needs, as most others do, we live just like any other person who follows Christ.

Do fundamentalist Christians ever have fun?

Yes we do!

Take a look at
Veggie Tales http://www.bigidea.com/
Jeremiah People http://www.jeremiahpeople.org/home.html
Mike Warnke http://www.mikewarnke.org/
Ken Davis http://www.kendavis.com/
Apologetix: http://www.apologetix.com/

and ask us whether we can have fun.

I can see your point in the fact that many Christians do lose sight of the joy that God gives. But joy runs much deeper than simply laughter. Joy is a deep quality of total contentment and happiness that goes further than a mere emotions. It's more of a state of mind.

You are using Christians as a label again. We are not moved by the events of the world. We praise God for his creation.... we are not morbid in are thinking.

The way for the world as you said fighting,name-calling backbiting...etc. It is quit sad. Blame it on the victims.

Is there any beauty in the earth...if there is it is given by the Father within...eyes to see but never see and ears to hear but never hearing.....

What is fun? There is a Godly fun that the world knows nothing about here and now.

Why do one wonder about another man's religion? Does it matter? Have you lost sight of the love of God? Only God can give you joy! Like you said in your opinion seem? Do you know anything for a fact! You guess just like the world guess...are you miserable in your own skin?

To really confuse the issue...all fundamentalist Christians are not the same and similarly not all Atheists, for example, are the same.

We have similar convictions and beliefs, but are individuals and at different stages in spiritual growth and or understanding...and a few us....just ain't right.

EDIT I am surprised when I hear of Chrisians sending hate filled e-mails to those who oppose their spiritual views...I personally have never done such...I have even honored others whom I oppose in spiritual matters,as human beings with gifts, talents nice personalities etc... I have firm convictions and will defend them but also see everyone as an object of God's love and mercy and choose to respect the individual, while being opposed to and not necessarily respecting, all beliefs.

Absolutely. I'm a fundamentalist and am not at all "always looking forward to the end of the world." I think you've done a lot of generalizing there,G.C. I have fun everyday!! God bless!!

G.C......in my humble opinion, it is not those of us with Faith that seems to dwell on hate, death, injustice, prejudice, ridicule, judgmental declarations, etc.,. From what I have seen here at R&S since I began just a short time ago, I see little of pure "joy" within what many of the Atheists write, even when many are making fun of others or doing their drinking games, the impression they give is that they are bitter, unhappy, disillusioned people....trying to be the clown so folks won't see their unhappiness...

There are many things of which I see from the Christian side which I do not agree with either, but, unless I just don't look at the questions everyone else do, I see very little of it compared to what I see from all others....and....when I or others of the Believers see an injustice is done by one of whom is our own, we check the person for it....something I do not see from the others.

However, I see the JOY from my brothers and sisters in Christ often. :)

As for fun...lol, Christians have fun with family, friends, pets, nature, reading, music, art, movies, etc., same as everyone else....

However, Our Lord cautions us to be careful NOT to make fun of our Lord's Words, so, no, you won't see much of that, lol.

Peace be with you :)

My guess is you just know very many Christians if any and have never spent time around us. We have a blast man. R U a Christian at all? Probably not, so you just don't know what your talking about would be my impression based on your Q.
