...is usually applied to white people. Can you use it to refer to African Americans and Latinos against white people?

Of course. Someone who is racist believes that the physical characteristics that make up a race (i.e. skin colour etc) define that individual's cultural or individual achievement. Black people saying all white people are greedy power crazed war mongerers are racist for instance.

Yes, if their attitudes are generalized based on race and not on an individual's qualities.

The definition of racist is:

Definition: [n] a person with a prejudiced belief that one race is superior to others
[adj] discriminatory especially on the basis of race or religion
[adj] based on racial intolerance; "racist remarks"

So, some African Americans, some Latinos, some Caucasians, some First People, and some Asians are racist. But not all, of course.

Yes. The term is usually applied to white people because of a long history of hatred of and/or cruelty to people of other races. Christopher Columbus claims to have discovered Jamaica but all he did was invade the place and massacre the existing occupants of the island (Arawak Indians)

Last time I checked, people are people, no matter what color or religion they are. So of course the term racist applies to any human being who dislikes another race of people. White people aren't the only racist in this sad world of ours.

.

Actually, the term 'racist' is *not*
"usually applied to white people"
(at least not to white people alone).

Any person can be a racist.

In addition, I just wanted to add that,
contrary to popular myth, there is no
such thing as ... 'Reverse' Racism.

Remember ... anyone can be a 'racist'
as 'Racism-is-Racism' and -- it does
not become 'reverse' simply because
the target is of the racism is 'white' nor
because the perpetrator is non-'white'.

If it were 'reversed' -- or if it were
only applied to certain groups -- that
would mean that it is *not* 'Racism'.

Again ... anyone can be a 'Racist';
'Racism-is-Racism'; and that it
does not become 'reverse' simply
because the target of it is 'white' nor
because the perpetrator is non-'white'.

Racism is "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that ones own race is superior and has the right to rule others". Therefore, yes, it applies to anyone who believes their race is superior.
