I've heard this quote..."The grace of God allows us to do what truth demands of us." What do you think about this?

My family had an over the top Christmas this year including ATV's, diamonds (large), and a new (used) truck for my 15 year old son. These gifts were from grandparents and in laws. How do I address the inevitable "What all did your family get for Christmas" question at work? I don't want it to seem like bragging. I'm very thankful for everything. How do I tell it gracefully or do I just say "Christmas was fine"? I absolutely hate people who try to outdo other people.

Why do they keep saying that the palestinians are the 'bad guys' and the agressors and Israel is the defenders...? Don't you think it ought to be the other way around? I mean... Israel's the one conducting the ILLEGAL occupation.

do people realize that catholocism is not christianity, that in fact it is paganism disguised as christianity? read jeremiah chapters 7 and 44 for a reference.

about 5 years ago. I was in college. Some friends and I took some LSD, and wandered the campus until we ended up at the shrine. There was a girl there praying. We sat in the darkness and watched her, thinking she was there to kill herself. when she left, we went down to the shrine. It was very creepy.

Let's be rational - if there is a crime committed and there are 12 witnessess, are you going to ask 1 witness or ask the remaining 11? And if there are 3 key witnessess, (eye witnessess) might it not be a good idea to start with them since they probably have the most accurate account of what happened? Also when investigating the truth, it's common knowledge that any bias can created a distorted conclusion - so isn't it best for you to keep an open mind until you've heard all the evidence? Just wondering.

in all the ancient religions the sun god is male and the moon god is female. why is it that islam worships a moon god and claims it is male when in fact it is female? what is allah going to say to them on judgement day about their treatment of women seeing that allah is really female and not male?

I am sorry this is long but really want some honest opinions. My hubby's family has a holiday tradition that just gripes me. The family "consists" of 4 siblings & their kids/grandkids. For Christmas, EVERYONE buys for the siblings. They buy for each other, the grandkids & the kids buy for ALL of them. The "kids" (approx ages 20-40) are left out. We are expected to get gifts for all the siblings & all the young kids & get nothing in return. I KNOW the holiday is not about what you get but it gets expensive to buy gifts for the four siblings & their dozen grandchildren-knowing that the gesture is not returned.
I have talked to my husband about trying to start the same tradition as my family. We buy for the grandkids (about 6 of them) & ALL the adults play dirty Santa ($25 limit).
We spend about 75% less $ on my family party than we do on his. We DO take food to each party (not taking this expense in account).
Should we suggest a change of this practice or just be silent???

This was posted as an answer by EvilSpoon:
"The fact of the matter is that WE, the white people of this country, are the CAUSE of the high rate of crime committed by African-Americans. WE are the ones that enslaved them for hundreds of years. WE are the ones that forced them into the bad neighborhoods over the last century. WE are the ones that prevent them from succeeding and getting out of poverty, which is the reason that crimes get committed. WE are the ones that have the vast majority of the power in this country, and WE are the ones that have NOT used this power to help minorities. "

I'm sorry. My ancestors came over on a coffin ship in the middle of the war of emancipation. Few could afford food or clothes, much less a slave. We were given jobs that not even slaves could do because no one cared if we lived or died. Is it right to blame a section of society that had nothing to do with the issue?

If you read about these things, they are from the pagan religion, traditions well before Jesus was even born, Why would christians celebrate pagan traditions on a day they celebrate Jesus birth? How come you never see Jesus wearing a santa hat or blessing Santas Gifts?

without the influence of religious leaders, would you come to believe in an authoritarian god? a loving god? a punishing god? no god at all? are you sure?
