It's frustrating to always hear ignorant questions like "what's the difference between Catholics and Christians?" Hearing that is like listening to nails on a chalkboard.

This is because they don't study their church history. At first, Martin Luther didn't want to break away from Catholicism; he just wanted reform. (This is why it's called the "Reformation!") However, he changed his mind and started to call the Pope the Antichrist. The "back to the Bible" movement happened about this time as well, and they liked to think that they were closer to original Christianity than the Catholics were.

Protestantism, especially Lutheranism, is very similar to Catholicism. The main issue of disagreement is transubstantiation, but there are a huge amount of similarities. There have even been recent agreements signed by Protestant and Catholic leaders signed that bring Protestantism back closer to its origins.

The Catholic Church did not write the books of the Bible so why would anybody thank them for it? The Protestant religion was started by Martin Luther not the Catholic Church.. So why would anybody thank the Catholic Church for Protestantism? The tenets of Protestantism go back to the words of Jesus not the Catholic Church.. Why are Catholics so ignorant of this?

Answer. The structure of both Catholicism and Protestantism are both flawed. When Protestantism left Catholicism a few hundred years ago, it took flaws with it. Since then, in the USA at least presently, both have added flaws to it also.
Further, one of the differences between Catholicism and Protestantism is that their Bibles are different. (I was raised in a Protestant denomination, but saw the flaws in the Catholicism, when I went through Catholic RCIA class).
May you receive an unmistakeable pleasant surprise today!

Just because someone does something good, doesnt mean everything they ever do is good. Catholicism put the Bible together.. GREAT!! But then they kept it from laymen for 1000+ years and feel they have the right to teach in addition to and in spite of what the Bible says. Just like King James... he had the Bible mass produced so that everyone could read it but then jailed anyone that didnt want to belong to the Church of England. We should recognize the good.... but also recognize the bad. Every horrificly bad person who ever lived has done something good at some point.

Because that history doesn't get taught anywhere, in either churches or public schools.

Honestly, forget the whole intelligent design thing. Let's get schools teaching something more than the same rundown of American history from fifth grade on.

If the Bible comes through the Catholic Church why don't they obey it? They go off on their own tangents too frequently, as if the Word of God is just a suggestion. They follow human things more than GOd.

They're not ignorant. You're ignoring the word "protest" in "Protestants". Protestantism began because Martin Luther was protesting the doctrine of the Catholic church. I doubt there are many Protestants who are unaware that their religion sprang from Catholicism, but by the very nature of their beliefs they're going to disagree quite vehemently with the Catholic doctrine.

I thank Martin Luther for having the guts to come out of her.
Not that Lutherin church is that different it isn't but it gave rise to others thinking differently and getting away with their heads still attached to their bodies.

Funny.... I always thought my religion came from Christ and I should thank Him and not the Catholic church. Stupid me.
