My family had an over the top Christmas this year including ATV's, diamonds (large), and a new (used) truck for my 15 year old son. These gifts were from grandparents and in laws. How do I address the inevitable "What all did your family get for Christmas" question at work? I don't want it to seem like bragging. I'm very thankful for everything. How do I tell it gracefully or do I just say "Christmas was fine"? I absolutely hate people who try to outdo other people.

When people ask you just say you had a wonderful Christmas and you enjoyed your family time. If they ask about gifts say some jewelry or mention just a few things and turn the question back on them. This will make you come across considerate and interested and keep you from being uncomfortable.

Just say it was great and mention some of the smaller items you received like the books or bathrobes. There isn't any need for you to tell other people about your good fortune unless you WANT to be bragging. The diamonds, if someone asks, can be explained by "Oh, this was a gift from my in-laws... aren't they the kindest people?!"

By inevitably mentioning that you recieved large diamonds and a new truck, it comes across as though you enjoy bragging. Why don't you just say, some jewelry is all? Or, mention a smaller gift.

I would just say " oh I got jewelry and som play things" or respond " santa was good to me this year, I am fortunate have a great family and that is what matters" you don't have to go into detail, and you don't have to brag.

Who cares, just let them know. I just don't say anything unless asked.. or my signifigant other blurts it out to everyone, then I have to finish with less enthusiasm. I don't brag. I have much better than alot of people.. when they start.. I just say yea.. or I needed it.. They all know what to expect from me now. It makes me mad having to be censored around certain people.. Like if I get a new car.. afraid to say you paid cash because they will think you are rich and start leeching on you for loans.. etc.. Censoring sucks, enjoy what you have. That's what you got it for.

Sounds to me like you DO want to brag. Why else would you have mentioned all the things you received to us (including specifically pointing out that the diamonds you received were large)? You could have just said that you and your family received several large, expensive presents...you didn't have to name them all.

Maybe mention the less extravagant gifts if you don't want to come off like you are boasting.

Hy! I know the kind you are talking about. Let them brag about all they got. Then you brag like h**L and really show them up. I love it when people like that get their come-up-ance.
