Having researched the Bible there is no mention of the word Christmas nor any reference that we are meant to celebrate the birth of Jesus rather that we are meant to commemorate His death.

I've been sent a couple of emails in the past few hours from a particular member on here asking me why I am here. His first email was (for a lack of a better word) preaching to me, and wondering what an Atheist was. His second email was stating that if I really believed that your god doesn't exist, I wouldn't be in this section debating it.

So, here are my questions.

1) Do you honestly not understand what an Atheist is?
2) While we aren't remotely the same person, do you know understand WHY the majority of us don't believe, even though we state it a million times a day?
3) Do you agree that if we truelly "didn't believe" that we wouldn't have to "debate" with anyone?
4) Do people not remember that this is not the "Christianity" board?
5) Do people realize that Atheism is NOT a religion?
6) If you aren't educated enough to answer these questions truthfully and seriously, will you go and learn more about it before bashing it or forcing your beliefs?

Happy Vacation!

When U support a religion that is not wanted by a large amount of people-yet you would PUSH it into their lives-you too ARE BREAKING THE LAW-as set by the constitution of The U.S. Christians are killing people in their Gods name-and if you are a christian and you do not see that YOUR religion is being used to force those of us that do not want accept or believe in your Jesus-why don't you just get out of THE U.S. and start a religious country somewhere where YOU R WANTED? This country is FREE to be religious and FREE NOT TO BE-so take your kindly Jesus to YOUR Crossroads and LEAVE!

I feel that these people should be able to see the same empirical and scientific evidence that I do. Why are many people so happy to blindly beleive, in other words, why are they so satisfied with faith. Maybe that is the answer, because it is satisfying to beleive, because the unknown is so scary. I could never beleive, how can they? I dont think there is anything wrong with beleiving, except when it is married with politics...then things get a little hairy. If you beleive great, I guess I'm just wondering if these people beleive thir specific religion is "better" than all of the other thousands of beleifs of the peoples of this planet.

Since intelligent design is another theory, at least on par with evolution, I'd like to know which peer-reviewed journals the theory has been published in!

Perhaps the theory is in the Journal Nature, Journal Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Proceedings of the Royal Society, perhaps? Or are they more specific, focusing instead on biology, and are their findings more likely to be in the Cell (journal), or Ecology Magazine?

God has made us to live in relationship with him and other people. Therefore, we are always involved in social interactions with everyone around us, including family members and friends, casual acquaintances, and total strangers. These interactions revolve around us influencing others, as well as us being influenced by them. The possibilities of social influence have brought up questions of the use they have for Christians efforts to influence others. While a variety of the techniques have been effective, it's God's job to change other people. Belief and behaviors are practically inseperable. My personal view on altruism is that where it is a regard for the welfare of others. I believe that when there are people in need, if there is anyway to help you should. But in another sense of my own personal views I won't stop and help people, because you never know what kind of person they may be. But I will donate to help others.

This:

"In the catholic faith birth control pills or any form of contraception is not allowed because life starts a t conception(meeting of the woman's egg cell and the man's sperm)."

was part of an answer I saw recently.

But, that's not related to what happens. "Most birth control pills are "combination pills" containing a combination of the hormones estrogen and progesterone to prevent ovulation (the release of an egg during the monthly cycle). A woman cannot get pregnant if she doesn't ovulate because there is no egg to be fertilized." -- http://www.kidshealth.org/teen/sexual_health/contraception/contraception_birth.html

Can anybody offer a better explanation for the rationale behind the prohibition on the pill? Just curious...

America seems, from across the Pond, to be an almost fundamentalist Christian/religious place to be, in the same way that much of the Middle East is a fundamentalist Muslim place, where God is invoked by politicians, despite the separation of church and state, unlike more politically secular countries in Europe.

Does that seem a fair view if you live there? If you are an atheist in the States is your atheism perfectly acceptable to others in conversation, or is it a more unusual thing to be vocal about?
