It helps them know the variety of products and deals available on the market. A lot of deals would be passed up if there weren't a lot of advertising. Other than that, commercialism is ruining Christmas.

It has its pros and cons. I'll try to stick to the pros:
• The last quarter of the year keeps our economy going, since it's the most profitable.
• It provides job opportunities, both temporary and permanent.
• Consumers can get some great deals on certain high ticket merchandise due to the loss leaders some stores run to bring in customers.
•The variety of merchandise expands during this time of year, giving people a wider choice of items.

It only helps people on the recieving end ie. those who make all the money from it. Those who get extra shifts. Maybe their genoristity makes it easier on 1% of the population who really need it.
Ultimately it doesn't help most people particularly those with little money as the feel pressured in to having to "do" Christmas a particular way, the Christmas tree, the lights, the decorations, the millions of presents under the Christmas tree. The need to send out millions of Christmas cards to people who you hardly know.

Maybe if you got off your high-horse you would se that "commericalism" gets people out shopping and then they either see the Angel Tree or Toys For Tots, they get one or more extra things because every child deserves a happy christmas, or if there is someone with a Salvation Army bucket and bell they will donate to that.
Suggestion: get over yourself and be MORE GIVING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS, (that is if your mood improves)

Are you asserting that it does or that it doesn't? Personally, I feel that Christmas (and, unfortunately Hannukah) have lost much of their meaning because of commercialism of the holidays. Too many people focus on the gift getting/giving rather than why the holiday is a holiday in the first place.

It helps remind people of the Pagan origins of Christmas.
The 25th of December celebrates the birth of Tammuz, the first false Messiah.
