Society & Culture - 9 December 2006

This Christmas is my first one with my boyfriend. I went all out for his birthday,(football signed by all his teammates, a scrapbook page card, a bible and a few inside joke things) now i have no ideas left...i don't have very much money and i really want this to be special...i need fun, cute ideas. :)

Just wondering why people on this site are so concerned about other peoples religious beliefs. The religion section is full of people trying to convince everyone that there's no God.
Why does it matter to anyone what anyone else here believes in? Will your life suddenly improve if you manage to turn someone into an atheist or convert them to your religion? Personally I couldn't care less what anyone believes in or doesn't believe in.

Suppose you were aware of a certain condition that was terminal and you could not afford treatment and you had been pretty much made peace with yourself and God. Do you have the right to live full of joy and Love and Dignity and complete your life's work as long as possible without telling those that Love You....

I mean--- each time Americans pay for $60-$80 of gas who did they cursed at?

Each time Americans looked at medical bills who did they blamed?

Each time an American boy/girl was killed in Iraq who did Americans blamed for causing the Iraq war?

If you were these people that the Americans are cursing at do you not have any shames?

sure, this place is great for actual questions like: who climbed the sycamore tree, who was st. Christopher, what was the name of the angel who visited Mohammad, why are atheists so sexy, etc, etc.

But, alot of the members who frequent this area, seem to attempt to engage in a serious discussion, when this areas format is rather counter intuitive for this form of recreation. it's hard to discuss religion with a low character count and a one way question/answer format, after all.

At-least five times now, I've seen someone parade the "every building needs a builder" argument in an answer, only to find that I'm unable to respond due to the character limit, or an unlisted email. Yahoo answers is great for question/answers, but do you think that those of us more interested in actual discussion, should either petition yahoo for a true forum or create our own offshoot forum?

[by "true forum" i am referring to the common forum setup, like burningboards, etc. ex: http://itt-community.com/ ]

I crushed both my hands in a nasty accident but after the operation I asked the doctor if I would be able to play the piano, and he said yes.

P.S. I couldn't play the piano before the accident.

Professor Norman Kember and other Christian activists in Iraq have offered their unconditional forgiveness to the insurgents who held them captive for 118 days and threatened them with death.

Their claim is that this is the Christian position to take. Do you agree?
