On my 7th birthday.I lived in a very bad neighbor hood and my father use to be in a gang and they gunned him down right in front of me ,and I was shot in the arm in the process. I will never forget the look in his eyes as all the grown ups screaming and crying, all I could think of was the look of terror in his eyes.I don't even celebrate my birthday anymore because it just hurts so bad to celebrate on the day my father was killed.

In 7th grade i saw a film about the middle east in class, it was about a doctor that ended up moving back to his homeland with his wife and daughter. He beat his wife, and men in the streets had guns.
I now realize it must have been the Taliban, since it was in Afghanistan. I asked my teacher if there were people like that in real life she said yes. It was then that i realized this world isn't so nice.
The weird thing is that even at a younger age i knew people died, just didn't realize that all the gunfire i would hear at night. Was not just the sound of guns, but the end of someones life. Im glad gangs are not as common in my city, as they were in 94'.

When I was about 7 my father took me and my brother to a bowling alley. My dad was from India and we lived in eastern Kentucky...so he stuck out. Some guy who was drunk kept threatening my dad and calling him saddam hussein. I was scared he was going to try and hurt my dad and I didn't know why he was bothering him like that.
Another time was when I was 13 and a guy approached me at a mall trying to get me to go for a drive with him. I went to find my mom and didn't think of it again..until the guy came to my school..he had been following me and I realized there are people out there who could try and hurt me

About 8, when my friend & I I were roller skating down the alley behind our houses. I grabbed onto the fence & accidently knocked off a bottle of ketchup. THe man inside the yard grabbed my wrist & scared the crap out of me. My "friend" took off & my mother didn't defend me. She told me later that he apologized to her. He tried to say hello to me after that, but I didn't forget what he did. I'll forgive, but never forget. It was obviously an accident!
