Generally a smart person arrives at the conclusion that people deserve to live in peace and have the right to pursue happiness.
Dumb people never get beyond questioning someone's sex life.
I also disagree with ignoring them (in real life). When they're ignored they react in one of two ways:
1. Frustrated that they're not heard so they escalate their attempts, which can lead to serious criminal behavior.
2. Emboldened because they feel they can do or say whatever they want and there'll be no consequences. They believe you don't have the courage to fight back.

They act that way cause they know it upsets people. if we ignore them then they have no reason to act that way. The more we pay attention to what they do - the more they will do it. Just ignore them completely.
Haven't you noticed the abundance of hate crime questions lately, it's because we answer them and then ask questions like this, they know they are getting attention so they just keep it up. If we would just learn to TOTALLY ignore them they would get bored and go away. And if you feel you must do something - report the question and/or answer and then leave it be. Don't answer, don't respond in any way - just IGNORE them.

Unfortunately,some are not stupid. They may be raised to accept this point of view but like children in a playground, they never know when to "give it a rest".
Mind you, I suffered my late partner's family for 42 years and my opinion of them would get me removed from "Answers".
