That's because of, not all religion, but FALSE religion. So many bad things are being done in the name of religion, and God is not pleased with that. That's why He tells anyone involved with false religion to get out of it (Revelation 18:4).
You can identify the true religion from the false ones based on their fruits or works, as Jesus said at Matthew 7:15-17. And in verse 19 of that same chapter, Jesus reveals what will happen to these types of religions that are meddling in war and politics, spreading false doctrine, and tolerating immorality, among other things that displease God.

Because although most religions claim to promote peace, they also bless war. Only a few groups in Christianity for example will not go to war: Quakers, Amish , Mennonite, Jehovah's Witness, Adventist i think, and a few others. Isaiah 2; 2- 4 foretells what true peaceful people will do. Hint: it's writtten on the statue at the U N headquarters

(a) (like someone already commented in another reply) many people just say that they are religious and in reality they are not.
(b) many people cannot keep up with the standards
(c) you cannot equate "most religions" as if they were somewhat the same. There are differnt religions leading to different perceptions of reality, human responsibility, human nature, human destiny, etc. You cannot equate them as if they were the same. Different religions answer your very same queston about evil very differently.
It is huge queston to ansewr it in such short messege. But to clear things up let's say followoing:
From the Christian perspective
(a) Evil is the consequence of the man's fall. (Adam and Eve)
--- (1) Human nature is corrupted - people do bad actions
--- (2) Nature is messed up too - natural disasters occur
(b) Evil is the result of the devil and the demons
(c) There are only one true religion - Christinaity. Other do NOT lead to God. So the question of the "religious people" from many religions flies out of the window...
Whether you decide this reply helps or not, it gives at least my perspective on your question.
P.S. To the guy that left review before me:
(1) Jehovah witnesses are not Christian.
(2) "only few groups in Christianity will not go to war" - is not very correct answer. (read "Jesus Freaks" book - it's good one)
~~peace~~

Which religion are you referring to as peaceful? Christianity isn't peaceful. Just look at all the killing that has occurred since int's inception. Start with the Crusades. The Jewish religion isn't peaceful. Look at how they managed to run the British out of the Middle East, before they claimed their prize, Jerusalem. They were in fact a bunch of terrorists, as proven by the bombing of the King David Hotel, in which they discusided themselves as Arabs. The Muslims aren't peaceful either, as evidenced by their support of the current round of terrorism.
In a nutshell, the major religions aren't "peaceful," but are rather very "warful," in the "name of God" of course. They all believe that "God" is on their side, even though God clearly told us that he would send the Messiah to end all war. Therefore, God must be against war.
Oh yeah, that's right, one of the three mentioned believes that God already sent the Messiah to us, and he didn't end all war. Does that mean that God is a liar?
No, that means that one of the religions is quite mistaken.
Another of the religions believes that they own the Messiah, because he will be one of them. Can you imagine the poor Messiah, having to take the side of a religion that used terrorism to support it's take-over of a city whose definition is "teaching of peace?"
By the way, that city, "Jerusalem" was rightfully owned by the people who owned the property prior to it's bloody take-over. Isaiah tells us that the "seize of Jerusalem" would last 65 years. Check out Isaiah chapter 7-11 to see the outcome.
Sincerely,
Chris

Ecclesiastes 8:9 9Â All this I have seen, and there was an applying of my heart to every work that has been done under the sun, [during] the time that man has dominated man to his injury.
Mankind has been imperfect and sinful ever since the rebellion in the garden of Eden. Sinful humans tend to struggle for dominance, and this results in wars, oppression, and suffering. (Ecclesiastes 4:1; 8:9)

people like the idea of religion, it makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. But humans have memory and like to take revenge on others, they also have pride, lust, wrath and other such traits that are non-condusive to peace. Plus people LOVE to use religion to justify the horrible wars and genocide that they do, think back to slavery and racial discrimination in the 1950's South and even today.

The reason there is "never" peace is because your second qualifier is fallacious. Many religious people are willing to kill in the name of their religion.

All religions are peaceful to their own kind, but not to other religion. The only truly peaceful religions are Buddhism and atheists.

Because non peacefl people claim religious affiliation and no one can judge them as not except God. They will answer to him eventually. In the meantime you can tell a tree by its fruits.
