Regardless of religion, what does it take to be knowledgeable enough to speak for your faith? Do you think that reading a single book, or attending a few services qualifies you to debate matters of faith? Or do you think that a certain amount of study might be reqired.

For Christians, didn't Jesus say to "Search ye the scriptures for in them ye think ye have eternal life" or something similar depending on which translation you use. Do you think that simply reading another's translation of scripture is enoug? Do you find a possible value in understanding what the original writers meant?

For Wiccans, do you think that reading "To Ride a Silver Broomstick" is enough? What about other more classical authors?

Other than that, do you think book learning suffices? What about practical experience with your chosen faith?

Who, exactly, is an authority to speak for a faith tradition?

well, there's this boy at school who isn't quite all "there" and at lunch, my friends usually call him over so that they can make fun of him! i usually get there in time and break it up, and by that time, this kid is crying his eyes out. i got so angry at my friend the other day that i called them lesser than human and yelled that they were evil and should go to hell. i was so angry i cried. now one of them wants to fight me. i was in the right, i know, but now they think that retaliation is the answer. i just wish i could help him more... why are people so heartless? does picking on him make them feel more powerful?
right now, people really equal shiit.

My brother's son is gay and has noticed his "straight" friend has started acting really weird around him. The boy, Lance has a GF but I have seen him checkin' out my nephew. Lance does not know his orientation but I think they like each other, and I have a plan of action. Anyone have ideas on how to test a 14 year old's preferences? Should I intervene?

I'm thinking about getting my older brother the new ipod shuffle. I know he has a ton of songs on itunes and I realize that he dosen't have an mp3 player. However, I think he may buy a mobile phone in the future that has an mp3 player. Do you still think it is a good idea to get one? In my opinion, I think it's better if he seperates phone from mp3 player because if he kept playing songs on his phone, the battery gets used up faster. Plus, I don't think he can store that much songs on a phone compared to a real mp3 player. Price wise, I'm willing to pay for it, although I think it's a bit too much from a 13 year old. What do you think?

my mom is White and pureto rican then my dad is Black and Indian. I speak english and spanish. i look indian and or pureto rican. when i hear racial comments i get mad cause i and a lil bit if everyhing. when i visit my moms family i am speaking lots of spanish and i am identified as pureto rican but when i am with my dads family i am identified as black. i want to be me and express all of my races. how do i tell my mama y papa???

looks to me, that other minoritys have it better, because of loans that are given to you, colleges that are just for you, and visa that are given out, so i think white americans or euro-americans have just as much of a right to pronounce their race and it is not the kkk saying this.

To my understanding at the moment, some or most of the worlds religions do not allow for the fact that there could possibly be another religion or god, therefore two possibilities can arise : either there is only 1 religion and most of the people in the world are condemed to hell for following the wrong religion or there is no religion or god for that matter. I want my children to believe that there is a such thing as Santa Claus. There are some that I know (mostly from church) that believe I am doing them a disservice by letting them believe such a thing. I also let them know the true meaning of CHRISTmas first and foremost. whats the big deal, why should kids be grown-up so soon?

i posted a question about what i thought was wrong with my race,(balck) i only got a few mean answers but i see all to often that many o fmy people refuse to see whats wrong with us and want to blame "the white man" for everything. and whay do we use the word n-i-g-g=a? its horrible its what racist use to call us. (yeah they use ni-gg-er and n--i-g-g=a) but they still don't wanna see it. i agree that not everyone of us is like that but we should try to have a more repectable culture. most of the kids at my school and alot of others ones don't have any intrest and really do care about were we come from as a people and don't wanna learn. doesn't it bother them we basically don't have a cutlure, that we can get morals and ideals from. (we had to adopt ours) i believe or generation should shap up and be role models for the many african americans to come.

Why are parents trying to suck the fun out of everything? Isn't it a good thing to let your children have an imagination? Isn't Santa a symbol for Christmas. He stands for love and giving. What is so horrible about that. Can't we just let children be children for a while. Why are parent's trying to make their kids grow up so fast? What ever happened to some good old fashioned playing?

On the way home tonight, I decided to grab some fast food grub for later. I stopped at Wendy's and ordered two Bacon Cheeseburgers, sour cream and chive baked potato with butter, and a Chicken Caesar Salad. Total came to $10. Upon arriving home, I open my burgers and find that they only have bacon, lettuce and tomato in them -- no BURGER or cheese. Additionally there is no salt/pepper/sourcream/butter. What is the proper way to handle 5hitty service like this?

this guy and I were dating and for a while and we were (still are) in love with each other. It was really nice and we both fell really happy. However, from previous relationships, I've been really scarred and am very mistrusting (extremely),and sometimes I doubted this boyfriend of mine, but always proven wrong! He has a lot of things on him (school, family, etc.) and they're all going bad right now, and I'm on the same boat, and that mistrust of mine added to his stress. We split up two weeks ago, and I asked him back, but he said he wanted me as a friend. He still calls me and I call him...and I know he still loves me as much as I do. However, I'm scared that he might never come back to me, and it sucks seing him as a friend everyday and saying "dude" and "man"...its irritating!! But I want him to be happy. I'm there for him because that to me is true love (helping him out when he's having it bad)...but what if he never sees me as more than a friend anymore??? I dont know what to do
