The texts in the previous part of the exercise offered examples that provide insights into the relationship between the self and the Absolute/the Holy/Ultimate Reality. The role of women in religion has often been influenced via such conceptualizations. The medieval theologian Thomas Aquinas in his Summa Theologiae deals with the general conviction based on Aristotle’s teaching (De Gener. ii, 3), that "the female is a misbegotten male." Aquinas concedes that women are “misbegotten” but only with regard to their bodies not souls. He nevertheless argues the inferiority of women in mind and body with regard to men. In which ways has the theological concept of the female as “misbegotten male” historically influenced the role of women in society? Provide at least two examples.

I think that there have been many religions through the years that hold women in high regard. Goddess, mother nature, mother earth - all playing the staring role in many religions of how humanity came to be, and frankly, rightly so. You can not have birth without woman - more acurately you can not have birth without man AND woman.
I think that the Judeo/Christian religions were specifically crafted to take power away from women - to make a radical, political change in the lives of men, one that went so far as to have women classed as chattel and property and goes so far as to incite public stoning of women. I ask you! The laws of countries are generally to protect the women and children while the laws of religions not so much it seems sometimes.
I would agree to the extent though that a woman is not a proper man - and in an ancient world where person = man, I might be able to see how this sort of female inferiority could come in (not as strong, not able to hunt, etc.) but when it comes down to it, if a man was ill it was very often the women who shared remedies with one another and could save the life of the man (and of course, her special talents are required for offspring - bearing and raising them). Different but equal was not a concept in the mind of some churches, but it has been hard earned (and even then many feel not completely). The bottom line is each of us in uniquely valuable in our own way, no matter what sex we are.
Peace!

Thomas Aquinas is full of ****.Why dont you read the WORD of GOD yourself instead of relying on religious text books. They teach doctrine and religion not the truth hidden in the WORD. Before reading the WORD Ask the Holy spirit to reveal the hidden truth to you and belive what you read. OK No such thing as a woman being a misbegotten male. Thats horse poop. Medieval theologian with medieval thoughts and ideas.

I completely agree. I do only not get how such quite a number of those women human beings should be so insensitive. I mean for sure those women those who ask the questions are damage. i do not realize why such quite some women human beings sense that letting there guy watch porn is okay in a relationship. Obiously porn does do severe damage quite some cases. they say that those women human beings are insecure, yet quite i imagine those that enable it are. Why does a guy who has a good woman at abode opt to video reveal it? besides, if those human beings really did slightly of of analyze about how risky porn is to a relationship they could see. yet I really have a feeling a lot of those women human beings will be interior an identical position earlier too lengthy, even with the undeniable fact that it truly is going to be too overdue for them.

If woman came after man then she would have had to been an
improvement on the original model that is logic of common mind.
The actual reality is that the only difference between man and
woman is a chemical and genealogical one, which allows for the
roles we fill in the universe, one is not greater than the other, but
complement one another. Yin and yang together in concert makes all the myriad of creation

You already know the answer to this.
Until the last century, women were treated almost as though they were chattel. Things that were owned and traded like oxen and carts.
Do you remember the play Romeo and Juliet? At one point, Juliets father gives her as a gift to his friend Paris. When Juliet protests, he declares
"But fettle your fine joints 'gainst Thursday next,
To go with Paris to Saint Peter's Church,
Or I will drag thee on a hurdle thither."
And he tells her
"get thee to church o' Thursday,
Or never after look me in the face:
Speak not, reply not, do not answer me;"
and
"An you be mine, I'll give you to my friend;
And you be not, hang, beg, starve, die in the streets,
For, by my soul, I'll ne'er acknowledge thee,
Nor what is mine shall never do thee good:
Trust to't, bethink you; I'll not be forsworn. "
And this was a prevalent attitude during the Middle Ages. Shakespeare wouldn't have wrote it if it wasn't common then.
And, then there's the example of women being denied the right to vote. The bible was often used as the reasoning behind it.
http://www.indiana.edu/~letrs/vwwp/bodichon/enfranchise.html
it's not that hard to find information on the Women's Suffrage or the justification used for the denial of it until recent times.
Much of the world has denied women human rights for millenia.

Since christianity has been the mainstream moral standard for western society i would say that the fact that women were though of as inferior has lessesn their chances to be teachers. Up to the 50's women in careers were either nurses, not doctors or kindegarten or elementry teachers, not profesors. Thats the only one i can tell you. Good Luck.

Words of Paul, Galatians 3:28 - There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female: for you are all one in Christ Jesus.
We all tend to see what we want to see in our scripture.
God created women exactly as He wanted them to be. Aquinas assumed that women were some sort of "man wannabe".
But then, Aquinas got lots of other things twisted around, too. Much of the wrong-headed thinking of the RC church came from him.

WOMEN IN SCRIPTURE:
God gives great value to women as recorded in Scripture...and places great value in their dignity and honor:
Deborah was a judge raised up by God in a time of great distress for Israel.
Mary was chosen to bear God's own Son! What an honor.
Esther was used by God to save the entire nation of Israel from destruction !.

I don't see how this is hard. Look at any major religion and the state of women in the society around it (or even a hundred years ago), and you'll find your answers.
