Isn't the belief in god usually used to fill in the "gaps"? Be they evolutuonary gaps or gaps in knowlege of things we can't explain yet?
If a person living 2000 years ago where transported to our time he or she would most likely view us as gods only because of a lack of understanding of our technology. Just as some missionaries have been percieved as gods by stone aged peoples.
So doesn't it follow that the main reason for believing in a God is to give us answers to things we don't yet understand?

back from longer and longer periods of death. Does this finally prove that there is no eternal soul?
No mindless parroting of religious texts, please. Base your answers on experience or fact.

I understand you all think I will be punished eternally for being a life long opponent of the christian religion and it is truly unfortunate that that is the only consolation you are given when confronted with a jesus hater such as myself.

But is that enough? Does it bother any of you that I am able to bash the christian religion and jesus every single day yet in this life I go completely unpunished? Do you wonder why a jesus hater is allowed to live a life which is actually better, and happier than the life most christians are given?

Why are all of my wishes fulfilled, why do most of my dreams come true even though I NEVER pray, never ask "god" for anything? Why do bad things happen to people with bibles in their hands and prayer on thier lips yet nothing bad EVER enters into my life?

Do any of you have an answer other than your wish fulfillment answer of "wait until you die for your punishment"?

Is it just that free will stuff at work here?

First of all let me just start off by looking back centuries ago. There was minimal understanding of the world, religion was about all there was to go from and it was educated more or less as fact. However, these days there is enough scientific proof to disprove large chunks of what Christians believe to be true. Examples include God creating the Earth & humans .
Firstly, the Earth was meant to be the centre of the universe, which of course we now know to be false (and considering how volatile its structure is, God didn't do a very good job with it if he did create it). Secondly, humans weren't created as we are now, it's taken millions of years of evolution, and there are fossilised remains that prove this.
These are two fundamental points that are preached, and yet Christians still don't seem to have any doubt in their beliefs even though the evidence to the contrary is right there.
So my question is why still do so many people believe this, instead of acknowledging the truth?

Ive been told by all of the Christians on this site that a) God has a plan, and this plan is already written out. It cannot be changed. b) God is omniscient and knows everything you think and feel.

With those being "facts" of the religion, what point is there to praying for another person? (I am asking about praying for others SPECIFICALLY, because I already know that praying for personal reasons really does work...the subconcious is an amazing tool...) What I mean is - God has a plan right? And that plan is for Person A to die a miserable death at the hands of cancer or some other disease... So why prray about it? God isnt going to change His mind - he cant change it, because it is all "written in His Book."

So why pray? Other than for the obvious selfish reasons (it makes you feel better, etc.) Isnt it really just wasted effort?

He said that when you look at pastors/preachers or whatever they call themselves their fathers were preachers and their grandfathers and so on and they all claim to have been called by God.

He then asked why God keeps calling people from the same address.

I thought that was an interesting question and I wanted to share it with others.

Does anyone here have an answer to that question?

It is often stated that because everything had to start somewhere and be created by something, that there must be a God. This argument is used all the time by creationist. I'm just wondering where God came from, who created him?

I an so overjoyed, honestly, I want to thank somebody. So, who do I than? If there is none to thank, than I will just enjoy it anyway. And thanks lord, or whoever, for this beautiful day.

By providing so much alcohol for them, was he not tempting them to sin? Would Jesus parade some prostitutes before horny men as well? I think he was just beggin' for them to get themselves drunk.

Is his/her integrity at stake; or their position oxymoronic? Former Representative Mark Foley; just publicly came out of the closet, via lawyer; yet his past voting record, doesn't reflect it. There are many more closet Republicans as well as Democrats. How do you feel about them?
