england because we are not as extreme in any regard as the usa, though we have the individual right to be should we choose to.
our patriotism is moderate, our politics conflictual but not rabid, and we have a long and "high" culture.

To quote karrien sim peters
"England discovered us but the Dentist are going to discover England"
When are the English teachers going to discover Americans?
England gave the world the English language, Shakespeare and Football. Not to mention the stored program computer, the fire extinguisher, the jet engine, the hovercraft, stainless steel, the steam locomotive, the world wide web, the tank and the vacuum cleaner.
America gave the world the hamburger....oh wait, that was Germany. Looks like the USA gave the world nothing.
And natanat26 you sound like a Tory. Guns are only available to black people in the UK???what the hell are you talking about? The British music induustry is the best in the world, MUSE, Arctic monkeys loads of great bands. I pity you and your kids, you're the kind of people who voted margaret thatcher into power.
P.S. to the question asker, England did not discover America. Columbus did, well he didnt but he is commonly believed to have done so, and he was probably from Genoa. If you need a one word answer why the UK is better than America then here it is...BUSH!!

England better, because unlike America we have the NHS which gives the people a Health Service which is reliable at time, wheras the Americans have a private one and the bills an average american pays is through the roof, however Americans can boast the fact that their is somewhat opportunities to make a living, however even then UK England can boast that too. Since I am British My allegiance still lies with my home country and thats UK even if it is biased, Prefer England over america any day, and i could be here all day giving reasons why!

The Italians discovered the Americas although John Cabot, an English man actually discovered mainland America. That's if you don't take into account the Vikings and the Native Americans who I believe wandered over from Asia in the ice age. (Correct me if I'm wrong someone)
As to who is best....well at most things Britain does very well at (man for man) but if you look at things like the Olympics, Americans kick our asses, and if there was a war between us, although our military is more elite perhaps they would more than likely overwhelm us (if it was one on one)...but then they are a very big country. I would declare us equals and let us be friends and not squabble about who is best! Peace...Love!!

England , well UK actually, without a doubt. I've never met such rude, arrogant people as I met in the States when I went earlier this year. I was so disappointed because I'd wanted to go for years - won't bother going back in a hurry!

I'm not even going to answer this with politics in mind...just my own personal experience.
America has Disney World, MGM, and all the other fab theme parks...England has nothing that even comes close (please don't even think Thorpe Park!).
America has very large food portions...England give too little...however, America has a serious obesity problem, and although England's is rising, I'd hope that it would never get that bad...it's not pretty to see too many fat people...or healthy, obviously.
America has bad *** music....England doesn't! OK, the Beatles came from England, but as for now, it's all rubbish.
America had Elvis, and that simply rocks! England has lots of look-a-like's...they don't rock!
America has guns...this is bad bad bad. England has guns too, but thankfully they are limited to black people in rough neck towns...somewhere me or my children will *never* be going...so we're safe each day, whereas in America, we might not be.
I'm English by the way, and I like England, but I dislike the immigrants that are bringing the country down. I dislike the way there is no punishment for your crime...America has the death penalty (at least in some states), England doesn't, which is why the crime rate is so dreadfully high. I'd never move to America, but I'm not happy to stay in England either for the future...because quite simply, I believe there is no future.

Is England part of the United Kingdom? The real problem is that Americans seem to think that the UK is called England.

I believe that we Americans aren't so pompous as the Brits. And, from what I can tell from your post, we have much more refined grammatical skills.
We have free speech and freedom of religion. We can elect our leaders and don't have to have some inbred family running our country.
I don't know what they have in your history books, but in ours, the British did not discover America. They came here and forced their religious views on the natives while killing them with their foreign diseases, bu they didn't discover it.

Why does one have to be better than the other. I've lived both places and love both.
If you ask a question that has a demeaning quality, you're gonna get slammed. It doesn't matter what it's about really.
