He said that when you look at pastors/preachers or whatever they call themselves their fathers were preachers and their grandfathers and so on and they all claim to have been called by God.

He then asked why God keeps calling people from the same address.

I thought that was an interesting question and I wanted to share it with others.

Does anyone here have an answer to that question?

religion is a business and is handed down, their fathers did it and seen that it was a job with top position and demand respect from the citizen that had little responsibility, they like all people with position have to be careful of what they say and do, because that will do them in

Well, first off, I hope you realize the "same address" thing is just a metaphor. The probability of a grandfather/father/son all living at the same address is nearly non-existant.

However, it might have to do with the idea that people who are exposed to that type of lifestyle are more open to the possibility of it playing a role in their own life. God reached through bloodlines before. Why should now be any different?

That is ONE of the reasons the Catholic church imposed celibacy, to break up ecclesiastical dynasties. There were other reasons, of course and other, unintended consequences, but the idea was sound.

Read a chapter or two into 1 Samuel to learn God's opinion of hereditary vocations. In fact MOST of God's calls illustrated in the Pentateuch are the unexpected ones: Isaac, not Ishmael, Jacob, not Esau, Joseph, not Reuben, David, not his older brothers, etc.

Maybe we should trust the volunteer prophets more than the hired clergy. Hey, the Bible says that too!

Would you not be more likely to call on someone who was raised and prepared to be more likely to respond positively to you? Why should God be any different?
Of course He does color outside the lines once in a while. I've heard of some Pastors with pretty colorful pasts before. Of course some of them were Pastors kids too.

Maybe they're the ones at home waiting for Him to knock?

Many things are passed down generationally, good and bad. In the OT, the priesthood was passed down generationally, and although that doesn't apply literally to ministers, it does show a precedent of how God might choose to operate.

Everyone who claims to be called may not be, but I wouldn't say it's because their father or grandfather was.

Hoping the best for you...

If a pastor/ peacher's Dad or Grandfather did preach or was called by God it was probably because there Dad or Grandfather prayed they would be called and there prayers were answered. They were probably raised in the church and was brought up in the ways of the Lord.

i like the question. i think in the old days ppl were more likely to end up in the same business as their parents. i mean in any country in times of poverty if ur family has a business wouldnt u rather stick to it as a sure way of surviving rather that risck going out on ur own? same applied to the church. being a minister/preacher person was a simple way to make sure u were always clothed and fed. i mean in the old days ppl looked after their church and church leaders. and if ur father before u was a minister what better head start would u have?

Spirits.
Angels.
Ministering Spirits.

Just Like Sins follow a Family Line, Spirits Follow a Family Line.
And those Ministering Spirits will Minister to the son's and daughter's if they follow in their Mom and Dad's footsteps, by following GOD too!

Even other types of work(acting, fishing, racing, mining, sports have families, for generations, involved.Sometimes someone will be the first in their family to do the work. God calls some for Generations and some have no known ministers in their family. As a christian I know ministers with/without family also in ministry (read about some famous ministers and you should find both).

It's no marvel to be called of God. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night; And such was after God divided the light from the darkness; And such was after God said let there be light(only)...

Which is perhaps to Isaiah say God declared the end from the beginning.

Which is perhaps to Solomon say: with all thy getting, get understanding, which when embraced results in thy head being crowned with grace glory.

Which is perhaps to Pauline say:

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
