Peace!

O.K., Wars are fought for money, power, and vanity, but they always try to use Religion to motivate the average people to fight.

Religion is not the cause, it is one tool that bad men use.

It is not the fault of Religion, but the fault of bad men.

Peace! (out)

NO, the religions don't cause political wars, but the religions have one long war and it has outlived any political system. In the end the religious folk will have the higher body count.

Normally political systems are the primary causes for war, but religions are that ones that keep it hot and prevent peace.

There isn't a single political system still in power that was in power when the three major religions were created (Christianity, Judaism, Islam), yet the religious hatred inspired by these religions are still going strong.

Political systems try to deal with each other through diplomacy and when that fails war breaks out. The usually conclusion of a war results in the fall of one of the political systems. The exceptions are when proxy wars are fought, like the Korean War, where it is too risky to let the war escalate.

Religions don’t have that problem. They can fight each other and will continue to fight each other until one of the religions is dissolved, which rarely happens. The early pagan cultures died out with the fall of Rome. Which also gave birth to the Christian religion.

The problem with religions is that they almost never compromise. The radicals in religion think that any compromise will destroy their beliefs so they continue the fight no matter what. The Roman oppression of the Jews wasn’t political it was religious. The Roman Empire was worldwide and the first such government that was tolerant to most religions. The Jews refused to practice this tolerance so they were put down, oppressed and later made into scapegoats. If the Jews were just more tolerant of other religions then they wouldn’t have met with all that grief, but then they wouldn’t have been faithful.

The war between Islam and Christianity has its roots in the war between Islam and Judaism. When Moses’ people (the Jews) finally made it into the promised land, that territory wasn’t unoccupied, it was held by the people of Palestine, the Palestinians were evicted by the Jews and they took over land that was holy to Islam. After the fall of the temple of Solomon the Jews were pretty much evicted, and most fled to Europe. Those that remained were subject to Islamic rule until Rome took over the area and pushed the Moslems into Spain and Morocco. But, the seeds had been laid and so the Moslems hated the Christians, even before Christianity was an official religion.

Christianity became the foundation for the rulers in Europe, they couldn’t rule without the consent of the Church. This was true for a very long time, pretty much up until American was founded. Even today the King and Queens of England are crowned by the Bishop of Canterbury. The Church of England was a breakaway portion of the Catholic Church, formed when King Henry VIII wanted a divorce that the Catholic Church wouldn’t grant. Since the church was ultimately in charge of Europe they could have tried to stop the wars, but they didn’t. In fact the Crusades were greatly supported by the Church.

Anyway through out all this history we had religious persecution, people fleeing it founded the US, the Spanish Inquisition was caused by it, and so one. The intolerance was only made hotter when someone had the stupid idea of re-founding the Israeli nation. By a compromise they didn’t’ give the Israelis Jerusalem, but they took it anyway. So the Palestinians were once again evicted from their lands, is it any wonder that they are pissed. Since they can’t win a conventional war they become terrorists and have found that no amount of force will ever totally drive them out.

My point is that the religious hatred will never end. So why political systems come and go they only create short-term wars with a high body count. The religions create longer-term hatred with an accelerating body count. Long after American is a faint memory the religions will still be spouting hatred and killing each other. In the long run they will be responsible for the higher body count than any war or any nation was responsible for.

Gizmo you are forgetting that the original hatred between the Moslems, the Jews and the Christians was started when Israel took over the Holy Land the first time, before Christ was born. You also forgot how America was founded, the Crusades, the rise of the Talibin, the fall of Iran, all the European wars that the Catholic Church supported (basically ever single European war from the Dark Ages to the Renaissance) and so on. Then of course there are all those people that were injured, killed or lost family members in 9/11 and the Hispanics who were able to work in America until someone decided they were a security threat, and so on, and so on…

Don't people find other things to fight about?

It's a good question, but a bit naive, & alot slanted.

People (non-believers) can say "God causes wars," or "Believers cause all the wars" all they want. That's a hypocritical judgement that ignores every other issue - politics, greed, inhumane leaders, economics, etc.

If it weren't FOR religions, you'd have a world FULL of people who could care less about the person next to them. If everyone believed that they were the only person of importance, they'd be apt to get rid of anyone who stood in their way.

Most "religious" people are more apt to serve others & try to do what's best for other people before they consider taking care of themselves. It's called unselfishness. Most "religions" teach that.

Not less war but perhaps less public support for war. Wars are created by governments and those seeking power over another or their property. Religion is often the tool used to rally public support for the war. Unfortunately, there are other methods to rally public support such as fear (fear of terrorism,) economics, and especially politics.

Eliminate corruption from all governments and there will be much less war.

No, because mere Religion has no strength to change the world anyway.
Most times it is Gods Law of Blessings and Curses which bring about War.
God made it clear that those who follow Him will live in Peace and those who disobey Him will strive with others until they repent.
One needs only to study the History of Israel to see this at work. When Israel kept it's eyes on God they were victorious in Battle against sinful Nations. When they turned from God they suffered.

Wars start because evil people seek to control other people through what ever means possible. Religion is just one of the excuses that they use to exert power. If there were not religions, these people would just use some other excuse to start wars.

NO- I think most wars are really being fought because of greed and politics with some using religion to gain backing from others.

in the face of the bad they see that's brought on by religion many people forget that its done lots, in fact more good...

assume (erroniously) for a moment that there is no God; our law systems were designed and are based on the moral tenets and the written dictates of religion, most of us that grow up do it knowing about religion and recognising or even adopting the Good that it does for us...

it matters to society that people don't see Him but i won't preach. What is Is.
