Does anyone find it tragic and ironic that the basis for Middle East conflict may be found in the Bible?

In Genesis, Chapter 11 we find that the ancient fight for power and property appears to be based on which side we believe God takes. Since we profess that the creator is a god of love, does it make sense for "him" to favor only a chosen few, whoever they are? After all, we're all god's kids; aren't we? If so, why pick one group over another, and do we believe that god actually did so? And if we hold that god mandated favoritism, does it give us the right to kill in order to comply with his edict? Engage your sense of reason please before you answer.

Why should I beleive in a book written over 2000 thousand years ago, based on a man in the sky?

I have been leaning towards a more spirtitually outlook on life. The whole concept of a God and a man named Jesus is hard for me to put faith in. How do we know that the story of God is just not a myth the human race made up to indulge our imaginations? We have prooved why it rains, or how crops grow, but in the past the God Thor was used to explain why it rained and crops grew. Maybe now we use God as an explaination for why we are here, or the creatin of the universe, or why we love. Please someone give some feedback on my questions, and disbeliefs. Thank You

A question for atheists?

Do you believe the world would be better of without religion, or that some, (Ba'hai, Jainism, Buddhism, Confucianism) who's followers are almost all peaceful and try to make the world a better place, should remain. Some of these religions are even atheistic (Confucianism) or agnostic (Buddhism). What do you think?

Why do supposedly "Christian" men beat their wives?

I know of several cases of this. When I ask why they do it, they say, "Because she deserved it." To me, there is something mentally wrong with any man who would hit a woman. A bully can always beat up a woman or an old man.

Non-Christians, would you/did you have a "Christian"-style wedding?

This sort of nasty Christian piece about "unbelieving" couples who use the Christian wedding symbols made me think of it.

If you're not Christian, would you (or did you) have the white dress, the vows, the honeymoon, etc?

I've seen this, and just figured they were getting married the way they knew how, as products of American culture (and their mothers!).

In this area, do people ask questions to get answers or simply to spread their own beliefs?

My experience here seems to point to the latter with such questions as "why isn't everyone a muslim?" "why are Christians really sun worshippers?" etc. All the time, the people asking these questions forget that they are converting noone, come across as morons and will shortly get ignored by all but those who agree with them.

I welcome others comments on the matter.

What's wrong with me??

In genreal, I'm a very thoughful person, being I think about stuff alot. When I go to church, I feel kinda depressed like I don't fit in with all the kids my age there like we talk and have fun and laugh but I don't feel like they want me there or they don't care about me. And when I go to school, it's sorta the same thing, but toned down a bit more. What's wrong with me?
