Your entire religion preaches hate and intolerance, just in a passive aggressive way.
When one of you actually has the balls to say what every other christian thinks (they are better than you) you shun him.

To me, Mel is just awful, but at least he has the courage of his convictions.

Some are saved according to the Bible and some are not. Why? Does God give grace to some and not others? Yet, the Bible says there is nothing good in us that we are saved. Good words can add nothing to salvation.

That's right, I'm referring to space aliens. The whole running time of Gibson's film "Signs" we are reminded of the hatred Gibson harbors for these beings.

And in the end, he stands by while one is brutally murdered in his own house.

For shame, Mr. Gibson!

Because they don't believe in God.
But they do believe in soul. If your action is good and without any desire--that will lead you to complete annihilation and that inexistence
implies pure peace. If you action is good but involves desire you will be reborn after spending the intermediate time in some kind of heavens. If your action is bad you will be reborn as an inferior being
after spending a finite time in hell. They also do believe in some beings(gods not God in the sense other theists believe, demons
and buddhas). But those beings are just assisting or not assisting a person to annihilation to zero.

nothing but my appreciation.

The real question is, "What's your most treasured material possession, and why?"

Please don't say "my wife" or other people - they're not possessions!

I want to get a glimpse of what it is that people really value.

I ask this question cause it always seems like really religious people have see sex in an ugly way. The catholic doctrines are infamous for this....Islam's Quran literally says that sex itself, in marriage or not, is shameful (Quran 24:31)...fundy's are fixated on the sin of sex so much so that all other sins pale in comparison.

More and more I am believing the theory that most religions were conceived by beta-males with no other recourse for sex.

If the most important event in Judaism is a myth, how can any of it be real? Read this:
Finkelstein and Silberman point out that there is still no evidence for the existence of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Lot, Moses, and Joshua. There is no evidence that Jewish people existed as an identified people that were enslaved in Egypt. There is no evidence that over 600,000 men (plus women and children - the number could have been over a million) had an exodus from Egypt and wandered in the desert for 40 years. According to the Bible, 38 of these 40 years were actually spent encamped at Kadesh-barnea. This area has been turned upside down for decades, looking for even a tiny piece of pottery from this supposed time. It is not likely that this many people would have lived here this long and not left archeological evidence.

Atheists identified as America’s most distrusted minority, according to new U of M study
What: U of M study reveals America’s distrust of atheism
Who: Penny Edgell, associate professor of sociology
Contact: Nina Shepherd, sociology media relations, (612) 599-1148
Mark Cassutt University News Service, (612) 624-8038

MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL (3/28/2006) -- American’s increasing acceptance of religious diversity doesn’t extend to those who don’t believe in a god, according to a national survey by researchers in the University of Minnesota’s department of sociology.

From a telephone sampling of more than 2,000 households, university researchers found that Americans rate atheists below Muslims, recent immigrants, gays and lesbians and other minority groups in “sharing their vision of American society.” Atheists are also the minority group most Americans are least willing to allow their children to marry.

Even though atheists are few in number, not formally organized and relatively hard to publicly identify, they are seen as a threat to the American way of life by a large portion of the American public. “Atheists, who account for about 3 percent of the U.S. population, offer a glaring exception to the rule of increasing social tolerance over the last 30 years,” says Penny Edgell, associate sociology professor and the study’s lead researcher.

Edgell also argues that today’s atheists play the role that Catholics, Jews and communists have played in the past—they offer a symbolic moral boundary to membership in American society. “It seems most Americans believe that diversity is fine, as long as every one shares a common ‘core’ of values that make them trustworthy—and in America, that ‘core’ has historically been religious,” says Edgell. Many of the study’s respondents associated atheism with an array of moral indiscretions ranging from criminal behavior to rampant materialism and cultural elitism.

Edgell believes a fear of moral decline and resulting social disorder is behind the findings. “Americans believe they share more than rules and procedures with their fellow citizens—they share an understanding of right and wrong,” she said. “Our findings seem to rest on a view of atheists as self-interested individuals who are not concerned with the common good.”

The researchers also found acceptance or rejection of atheists is related not only to personal religiosity, but also to one’s exposure to diversity, education and political orientation—with more educated, East and West Coast Americans more accepting of atheists than their Midwestern counterparts.

The study is co-authored by assistant professor Joseph Gerteis and associate professor Doug Hartmann. It’s the first in a series of national studies conducted the American Mosaic Project, a three-year project funded by the Minneapolis-based David Edelstein Family Foundation that looks at race, religion and cultural diversity in the contemporary United States. The study will appear in the April issue of the American Sociological Review.
