I ask this question cause it always seems like really religious people have see sex in an ugly way. The catholic doctrines are infamous for this....Islam's Quran literally says that sex itself, in marriage or not, is shameful (Quran 24:31)...fundy's are fixated on the sin of sex so much so that all other sins pale in comparison.

More and more I am believing the theory that most religions were conceived by beta-males with no other recourse for sex.

More likely. I fully agree with your theory. Who else but a beta-male would create such a big deal over sex. By doing this, it gives them the opportunity to contribute to the gene pool without the natural survival of the fittest (or most desirable in this case) by putting the Alphas on the same "spiritual" level as them (its probably another case of penis envy gone wrong).

Knocking down other's pleasure for their own satisfaction seems to be the thing to do for religious types They look down on everyone who doesn't do it the way they do it as well. I think that's where their big problem with homosexuality and interracial coupling comes from. They just aren't getting any and want everyone else to be as miserable as they are- so they tell everyone that their god thinks its naughty.

I think a sexually insecure person would cling to religion as a way of justifying their lack of attention.

"sour grapes" so to speak.

You're mistaken if you think Christians disapprove of sex or consider it the worst sin. We don't. The Bible thoroughly approves of sex and encourages married couples not to go without doing it for very long at a time. It's not considered shameful at all, except when done by those who are not married or by homosexuals. I have never heard any devoutly religious Christian express any other viewpoint on the matter than that. Nor is it the worst sin- that honor belongs to Pride.

A sexually insecure person is more likely to be religious, imo. With one exception, the uber-religious people I've known seem to have been hung up about expressing their sexuality.

I can only speak for myself. I am very secure in my sexuality. Before getting married (to a woman 15 years my junior), I never had a problem getting dates. I am an atheist and not religious at all.

I am Catholic and the only way sex is sinfull is when it is out of marriage, or is same-sex.

Otherwise, sex is a gift that is to be shared with the one that you are married to - and for making babies.

Sex is far from ugly.

I don't know. Sex is beautiful and God created it for us to enjoy in marriage. Read the book of Song of Solomon if you don't believe people should enjoy sex (or think that religious people think it's wrong.)

Sex is seen as a beautiful thing between a married couple in all religions. Maybe they are just having difficulty with 'un'married people.

No, I found that sexually insecure people are more likely to be promiscuous. You shouldn't do something because other people want you to. You do it because you want to. Alot of people have alot of hangups about sex, religion is just the result not the cause.
