This was the question Kirk posed when confronted with an alien posing as God. I thought it was a great philosophical point. When applied to reality...
Why does God need a church? Why does God need holy men? etc... and so on and so forth. I would love to see some thoughtful answers on this one.

We are, after all, human........sin (as the church dictates it to be) is part of our inherent make up.

Agreed, the Ten Commandments are a fair guideline to live ones life by anyone's standards, but what about the rest ?

It is our nature to be petty, judgmental, self absorbed, critical, jealous and all the other little idiosyncracies that make us human. Granted, we can try and change and recognise our behaviour, but I don't think there would be a person walking this earth who hasn't "sinned" and will continue to do so until the day they day ......so what is one to do?

If somebody says something against Jesus, nothing; but if somebody says something against Bush, there's likely to be an all-out brawl. Why?

I've joined a new church and they are heavy on evangelising. They are very polite about it and we are looking for more ideas on corporate outreach. I'm hoping that with all of the faith minded, bible believing users on here, someone can give me ideas that have worked at their church, to take back to my church. Thanks!

Just the other night I saw, much to my chagrine, an answer here in this forum (a "best answer" no less) that went something like: "When is everyone going to acknowledge that if the theory of evolution had any scientific evidence to back it up, it wouldn't be "just a theory."

Did people like this actually learn about theories and hypotheses and the scientific method in school? Or did they sleep through that lesson, or just skip class, or what?

Here's a little refresher: an hypothesis is an idea about the way something works in the world; once it's tested, using the scientific method, AND THE OUTCOME OF THE TESTING SUPPORTS THE HYPOTHESIS, the hypothesis becomes a theory. That is, a theory is an idea about the way the world works THAT IS SUPPORTED BY SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE.

Regarding why most everything in science, not just evolution, remains "just a theory," you can never be 100% sure that your outcome isn't due to chance. You can be 99.99% sure (as for evolution), but not 100%.

Okay Christians. I just was reading another question and CHRISTIANS were saying that Jesus is not God. It is things like this that give Christianity a bad name. Jesus most surely is the Alpha and the Omega, the second person of the trinity, the only person ever to have they hypostatic union.......

How many Christians her actually believe that Jesus is not God??

That this whole question and answer point system setup (when best answer is chosen by the asker) promotes a very socialist "whoever is like me gets rewarded" type of mentallity rather than an "I realize I'm not perfect so please guide me toward enlightenment" way of thinking, when the question involves a political or religious criteria.

Anyone else see a parallel between that and the strong divisions being formed in our country?

I know an atheist who wants so badly to believe but cannot, is there a reason for this? Does God still have a purpose for those who don't believe? Please pray for my grandmother.
