I'm a sort of Christian. The events of today have all the markings of a WWIII. However, some refer to the "Cold War" as WWIII, in which case this one would be a "WWIV."
It is scary. The US can maintain peace and safety by staying out of it, but that is highly unlikely.
The world is not slated to end via nuclear holocaust, though that doesn't rule out bombs possibly being dropped again. If that does happen I don't doubt that the UN will step in like we've never even imagined, and put a sudden stop to it.
As far as my beliefs go, I know for a certainty that governments will ban religion one day, all including the one true religion. The one true religion will be the last to be banned, for whatever reason. When the government finally prosecutes them, Armaggedon will come, that is, God intervening to protect his people.
Just my beliefs. I know they sound a bit fanatic. There is only so much a person can do to make something sound more earthly and less "apocalyptic." I do my best, LOL.

Atheist: yes it is possible but unprobable. It depends on how involved other countries get in the situation.
It is also possible that WW3 started on 9-11. Or when the Berlin Wall came down. Although also highly unlikely. It could be the event that triggers it into motion. WW3 could have also started when we invaded Iraq. There were a couple of very LARGE countries that had some futures vested in that country, namely Russia and China. Russia had just signed a $50 billion dollar oil deal with them.
I feel that Israel has every right to defend itself by any means needed. I feel the same for Hezbollah and the Palestinians. The bottom line is that if it is, it will not be the end of the world, which is a common stigma adopted in the not to distant past....or armageddon. Wars have happened since man first walked. It is nothing out of the ordinary. The scariest part about it is that we have become very efficient in killing each other with weapons.
To determine wether a "world war" is taking place, you first have to define "world war." Conventional war, even in the 80's, is dramatically different then it was during WW2 or even Vietnam. You have to really analyze all the leaders, how they think, and what their interests are before you can come to a clear decisive conclusion on where this will go. My gut tells me that yes, all of the things collectively we are seeing happen right now could spark something on a global scale. That also does not mean it will be something on a nuclear scale or something that will threaten our existince. But not just because of one tiny conflict in a country that not to many people care for. If it does become something on that scale I believe that it will be because we took it there, not because of some divine plan.
Most christians will not analyze the problem fully (note I said most and not all), because they are hung up on armageddon and the end of the world as we know it. Did you know that in history, if you study it, it was preached in every generation, since the Roman Empire, that they would see the return of christ? I find that very odd and discrediting.
Israel has been fighting since they became a nation, Jews have been fighting for THOUSANDS of years and people will continue to have wars until there are no people to have wars with left. Be it a global society, a great spiritual awakening (not the conventional religions), or by some other natural disaster or war. The key to survival is tolerance. I am ok with what you believe as long as you do not push it on me. All I ask is that I get the same respect. We are going to get to a point where we need to stop seeing ourselves as citizens of America, Iran, Russia, and whatever other country you can come up with, and see ourselves as citizens of Earth.

The war starting, it started quiet awhile ago, but I think I understand what you are saying, the acceleration of the conflict in the Mid East does look grave. I do believe we have been in WW III for sometime and it will get worse. Looks like Bush was really right about the Axis of evil and they seem to be now ready to take on Israel as they know that will throw the USA into the battle to protect them. Have faith though. Things don't always work out the way they appear. There are forces about that can control this situation, but first and foremost know that you and all your loved ones are protected from above.
I am Christian Scientist.

I agree with jim darwin above.
I would have to say believers in god stand the biggest chance of starting a war. Well there is NK shooting off missiles but he is just trying to make a name for himself that he single handed backed down the USA. But what other Atheist has started a war? I really don't remember any that was not attacked first.
Not a chance of WW3. What you are seeing is just a Police action cleaning up problems with religious groups. At the most like Jim said it is the ending of WW2.

I think Israel has the right to put these islamic terrorist nutcases in their place with military retaliation. They all want Israel "blown" off the map. Their mentality and their religion calls for a genocide of Jews and christians. You're completely delusional if you think Islam is a religion of "peace". They want everyone enslaved to their religion or else you have to be killed. Lebannon started this war the moment they killed and kidnapped Israeli soldiers, what were they expecting Israel to do, sit back an cower away? Jesus already said there would be wars, and rumors of wars in the last days, as well as earthquakes in diverse places, and famine & pestilences. I don't think this is a prelude to WW3, I think it's a prelude to Christ's return. I am a Christian.

Few are in support of war. The U.S. had little choice but to invade Afghanistan. They were the current hosts of the Taliban regime that refused to pony up Osama Bin Laden. Saddam Hussein was proven to assist terrorists (housed Abu Nidal and paid $25k to families of Palestinian suicide bombers). This nexus of Saddam's favor of terrorism combined with the amount of money he could generate for the cause, with the use of oil sales, put him next in line for removal. There is very little religious aspect to this on the side of the Americans. Sure Bush is a Christian but the soldiers are not killing in the name of Jesus Christ. On the other side, the Islamic terrorists could not make it any more clearer. They yell Allahu Ackbar (Allah is greatest) before the head chopping begins. They are fighting solely for Islam.

Good question. I am spiritual, I have no religion. I believe the war may escalate into somethimg big. With the U.S behind Isreal and other Arab nation's may back Palistine, look out!
This may be the lead up to the cleansing of the planet and the wiping out of 2/3 of the population. As it has been told.

World War III started a few years ago, although it has been difficult to discern, because of the slow-to-develop and diffuse nature of the causes.
I understand your curiosity about religious beliefs but cannot satisfy them here, sorry. Have a nice day!

WWIII started many years ago, with the fall of the U.S. Embassy in Iran. I think Israel is justified in their actions. Hezbollah and it's supporters have gone unpunished far too long. However, Isarael is going about it the wrong way. They are bombing Lebanese infrastructure, hoping people will lose faith in Hezbollah to protect them and demand they leave the country. I think it will backfire severly. Hezbollah will fight to the last man. Because they will be fighting the people who bomb their country, I think many people will rally to join Hezbollah. It's only a matter of time before many more people are up in arms.
