I recently had a class discussion on suicide rates. My teacher said most suiciders are in upper or upper middle class. She said that poor people don't have time to think about suiciding since they're always fighting to survive. I found this interesting and a little humorous. Give me your point of view on the topic. Most well argued one gets 10 points. Thank you for answering. Have an awesome day. (:

Ok I was reading the Christian version of "The Secret" and after reading a few pages I got deeply disturbed about something. This author was saying that nothing is destined to happen and it is what we do that attracts good or bad stuff. That if you judge you'll be judge, if you are sweet people will be sweet to you, if you're mean and so on.

Well what about people who get murdered and raped? What about that woman who got raped and killed at red lobster?! How is that her fault?! How did she attract that predator? I highly doubt she was wearing revealing clothes! What about an infant who's victim to some perverted crime? What about a girl who's extremely modest(both physically and personality wise) goes on this date and gets raped because she doesn't know anything about sex and noone told her about what guys say and act when they want it?

That it's their fault?! Is this what this so called Christian is saying? more to come......

While America seems to be great at acknowledging human rights problems and violence in other societies, are they afraid to admit and fix problems closer to home?? Are Americans living in denial, while letting the giant corporations and government keep them busy as consumers? Is this the ideal society that all developing countries should copy?

Americans seem to love the concept of freedom as do many other countries but for them it's not brought up all the time.

For example the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden. All countries with a better track record on education, health care, freedom of speech and human rights.

My question is what is it that makes American freedom so unique and why do you have the opinion that you have?

I'm not knocking America and I realise a lot of people will probably just get instantly defensive as I've read a few of the other questions on here that are along similar lines.
I love the place but I don't understand the whole obssession with freedom thing it really is beyond my understanding.
Especially as I've been to America and I don't see anything that any of the other countries I've been to don't already have.

Your thoughts please.

they are last in line....after waiting for a while she asks a nurse how many people are a head of them. She is told 15 people. A man who was next in line over heard the conversation, and asked to change places with her son. Within minutes of do so, other patients offered him their place, just so he would not be last in line. This is a true story. What are your thoughts.

Ok, they get so shy and everything by people becuase they they never get out much, but why do they get that way? Is it becuase their personality is different then other peoples or is it that they don't want other people to know they never get out? What makes them scarred to be who they want to be when it comes to talking to people?

Here are some facts forwarded to me by email by some colleagues:

"I heard through the grapevine about a remark made on an episode of
> "Desperate Housewives" last night. The scene entailed Teri Hatcher's
> character (Susan) at a hospital, being told by her gynecologist
> that she might be hitting menopause. Susan replied, "Can I just
> check those diplomas because I just want to make sure that they are
> not from some med school in the Philippines." If you go to abc.com,
> you can watch the full episode and witness the scene at about 18:50
> minutes into the episode."

"Accdg to one Filipino client of ours, Teri Hatcher actually asked for non-Filipino nurses/doctors when she was in a CA hospital. The hospital admin told her she has to look for another hospital, since everyone who had anything to do with patients was Filipino. Apparently this line is HER OWN AD LIB, based on her REAL-LFE FRUSTRATION that she not be touched or cared for by Filipinos... "

"...that they're not from some med school in the Philippines."

The furor over a slur uttered against Philippine medical schools on the premier episode of the fourth season of the American TV show "Desperate Housewives" has prompted a response from Malacañang Palace.

Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita said the TV show belittled the abilities of Filipino doctors and sent a message that Philippine medical schools produced "substandard, inferior" medical practitioners.

The offending remark was made by one of the show's desperate housewives, Susan Mayer (played by American actress Teri Hatcher). In one scene Mayer asks for the credentials of the gynecologist who examined her and told her that she was approaching menopause.

Mayer said, "Can I check those diplomas 'coz I just want to make sure that they're not from some med school in the Philippines." The premiere episode, which has been posted on YouTube.com, drew criticisms from the Filipino community on the Internet.

Example 1: Entering a war carelessly with little forethought like Vietnam.

Example 2: After all the various damages caused by the sexual revolution such as STD epidemics, broken relationships, cheapened bonds and fatherless homes, people still act like it's the 60s.

Example 3: Despite all the environmental damage and economic damage done to the poor by urban sprawl, people still poorly plot their development and rape more trees instead of tearing down old buildings and building new ones in place.

Example 4: People complaining about a president that they chose to reelect.

I can go on and on but those are just a few random examples.
