While America seems to be great at acknowledging human rights problems and violence in other societies, are they afraid to admit and fix problems closer to home?? Are Americans living in denial, while letting the giant corporations and government keep them busy as consumers? Is this the ideal society that all developing countries should copy?

Americans in America have always been in denial. They look to their politicians to run the country even when those same politicians make continuously bad decisions Americans still support them. Americans cannot think for themselves, they have to follow the crowd. It is either the Reps this the Dems that or vice versa. The trouble is it is both Parties and all other Parties and all politicians in general who want to keep people in this country stupid and fighting each other over inane problems, while the steal your house with one hand and stab you in the back with the other. In my opinion.

I keep on top of politics and what is going on in this country. I can't say that I am afraid, but I agree that this whole way of government has to change.
I do believe, however, that most Americans live in denial and bury their heads in the sand when it comes to facing the truth about how this country is run. Otherwise, there would have been a rebellion or revolution in 2000 and 2004.

The big business corporation - in tandem with the CIA and other secret organizations - run the US, little doubt about that. They keep the public in a state of delusion about the reality of American life.

I don't think that recognizing fault in others and not seeing it or admitting it in ones self is all that unique to Americans. Indeed, there is a biblical verse (Matthew 7:3) that goes something like "why do you see the dust in your brothers eye and not notice the splinter in your own eye". I think it is human nature.
