Example 1: Entering a war carelessly with little forethought like Vietnam.

Example 2: After all the various damages caused by the sexual revolution such as STD epidemics, broken relationships, cheapened bonds and fatherless homes, people still act like it's the 60s.

Example 3: Despite all the environmental damage and economic damage done to the poor by urban sprawl, people still poorly plot their development and rape more trees instead of tearing down old buildings and building new ones in place.

Example 4: People complaining about a president that they chose to reelect.

I can go on and on but those are just a few random examples.

Because everyone blames everyone else for their mistakes. How in the world can you be held accountable for things you dont take responsibility for in the first place. This has become the I feel generations- if it feels good or right do it and who are you to tell me no. For ex, for safety reasons they have kids open their bookbags when they come into school -Guaranteed some parent will be like -ohh my God how can you inconvience my child by attempting to protect her-yet when something happens its-why didnt you know they had a weapon. Everyone wants what they want when they want it -no discipline. So if adults are no longer discipline they create a generation of undiscpline kids but thats blamed on something else to.

What country learns from it's mistakes like the ones you suggest?

At least the United States has several mechanisms for change, and we do use them.

Slavery was abolished. Women and other minorities can vote. Segregation is illegal. Discrimination is illegal. A lot of pullution has been cleaned up. Consumer goods, food, and medicines must be safe. Our houses and infrastructure must meet building codes.

Are there mistakes in judgment and major mishaps? Yes. But nowhere are these issues being tackled simultaneously with as much vigor.

And yes, people will always complain about the president. But isn't it nice that we have elections, and we aren't jailed or shot for complaining.

Sir Edmond Burke said " People get the government that they deserve". At this point in history that is true of the USA. They started in rebellion and it will never leave them. They refuse to admit when they have hurt other nations or are found in subversion of other nations. Chile would be a good example. The records now show that the CIA paid to get ride of the government of an elected president that did not fit the American wishes. The Shah in Iran was place there after the Americans destroyed an elected government. I can't go on... but to say that error leads to error and consequences.
It was an American who said if God does not destroy America he owes an apology to Sodom and Gomora.

its not "america" .. its select people in america .. before you go and start dissing an entire country, realize that not all americans do the things you mentioned above .. and most of what you have written is about the government .. not the citizens that really dont have a choice (on a large scale) of what the government does .. no country is perfect .. and all problems cant be fixed .

america cant be doing too bad since it is a world power and continues to prosper to this day

Because the yanks (politiicians) wont admit to mistakes in the first place.
And you forgot about the Kioto agreement - how can Bush justify his actions on the state of the earth?

I give up, I really do

I think most Americans know - but we are not the ones in power.

This country is being destroyed in the name of the new world order. Almost everything you mentioned are communist tactics to ruin a country.

NEVER underestimate the stupidity of large groups of people. As individuals, on a whole, people are fairly intelligent and reasonable...but, get those same people into a large group, and they become sheep, with about as much intelligence, not quite, but almost.

This is because of how careless certain Americans are, about making mistakes. Mistakes aren't taken serious enough.

I don't think any country learns from its mistakes. All that can be done is to apply patches or bandaids to cover them up.
