You wrote too vague of a question.
Teenagers are:
1. A joy to see a horror to have
2. The cruelest animals on earth
3. A huge drain on their parents’ resources, patience and intelligence.
4. Our future
5. Our destruction.
Teenagers are some of the meanest people who don't have the sophisticated interpersonal skills of an adult, but think they do. They are more likely to lash out at someone else an their most popular activity is to destroy someone else to make themselves feel better and seem better. They are the cruelest to their own parents; embarrassed to be with them, to even be seen with them, to have their friends around them or to even have their parents talk with their friends. Here is a clue those same teenagers have parents too.
Most teenagers feel that their parents owe them a living and that the few chores they have to do around the house are more work than they will need to do to be successful in life. They are self centered, obnoxious individuals who are bathed in a sea of changing hormones and dawning sexual desire.
But, if we can survive them, our teenagers are our future and then will determine what happens to the world in the next generation. When we retire from life all that we will have left will be our youth. If we have failed to teach them properly then it is their children and their children's children who will suffer.
I think that the "Me Generation" of the 1980s turned into self absorbed people who made poor parents and we are seeing that legacy today in the poor discipline in our schools and the crazy way that some people raise their kids; like making a boy walk to the store nude to return the jeans he stole; true question that was posted on this board.
To be fair teenagers are going through a lot and as they are growing and trying to find their limits they often do it faster than the parents are prepared to accept. When they go out on their own and fail then, which will happen, the teen has to know that they can rely on their parents, that their parents have their best interest at heart and that the lecture they are going to get is because their parents have been through something similar and know more than their kids. Teenagers can program a computer and the VCR without looking at the manual so they think they know more than the adults, but they don't know anything about having to live on their own or just how hard it is.
Both sides don't respect each other enough, but the teenager is the one who disrespects EVERYONE and they are doing it ALL the time. They don't realize it and they don't even think of it, which only makes what they do hurt even more.
