Is it possible that people are using mental illness as an excuse to get away with too many things? For example, the woman that killed her minister husband and claimed ptsd and got off after 67 days of treatment. All someone has to do is to claim they have a mental disorder and all is forgiven. Too many people are claiming to have too many mental disorders. Everyone can't have a mental problem.

That's something I never understood. It seems so dumb. And why would sadists enjoy hurting people, or for that matter masochists put up with that?

I have an obsession with calories. I count exactly how many I take in, how many I burn, and even how many calories other people take in. I'm obsessed with working out to burn calories and always burn exactly 350 a day at the gym, and an additional 100 or so from just walking, etc. I ALWAYS read nutrition facts, and for home-made meals, I watch my mom closely and calculate exactly how many calories are in each meal. I hate this habit, and it's disrupting my normal life! (in school, I always dwell on how much I've eaten that day and how much I need to work out to burn it off) I'm 16 (almost 17), 5'3 and 99 pounds, so I'm not like ultra-skinny or anything, i just have a strange obsession!!! Am I OCD??

And are they using research in other fields that affect it like neuro-biology, neuro-linguistics. It seems like the field has to keep up on nearly every other discipline to be viable. That seems to be true of every discipline now with all the discoveries.

I heard that you cannot stop a habit but must replace it with another one. I have found this to be very true. Starting when I was about 8 years old, I went to the gas station EVERY DAY and got a soda at least once. When I was 14, I replaced sipping soda with smoking. I smoked throughout the day and went to the store every day for a pack of cigarettes. Now that I (finally) quit smoking, I find that I go to get a Starbuck's coffee every day, even though I can't comfortably afford it. Anyone know what my strange series of addictions stems from or how I can overcome it? I'm tired of depending on outside things!

I find if I have nothing to worry about I think of useless things that depress me and they have no logical reasoning or foundation. Time passes slowly when you're procrastinating about something. As they say time goes so fast when you're busy but you get so tired.

I live in a very conservative (politically and socially) area. I am rather laid-back and liberal. I am finding it difficult to find a job, make friends and feel comfortable with service professionals (doctors, dentists, etc.) because the business climate is very cut-throat resulting (in my opinion) a living environment that is paranoid and non-trusting. Is there any hope? How does a mild mannered person like myself get along in this type of environment? I keep wanting to be friendly and trust people,, but this seems to be the opposite of how people behave here and how they expect you to behave.
Any suggestions?

There is no specific reason. Just a bad mood? I am happy 99% of the time so I am not good at dealing with bad moods.
