The man the movie A Beautiful Mind-John Nash was based on became schizophrenic while in college working on mathematics calculations. (He was kinda like the mathemetician on Numbers) His son is also schizophrenic. Apparently John had control issues, he did not want to be schizophrenic therefore he would ignore the people he saw that he knew wasn't there and the voices (they talked to him and convinced him to believe he was in the CIA) He married a wonderful woman who was with him even tho he refused medication. He is/was so arrogant he chastized his son for taking medication because he didn't want to suffer the way his father did. I think intelligent people are a bit eccentric. As with Charle's character in 'Numbers' he can't refrain from composing mathematical equations to the point I would diagnose him obsessive compulsive. I think we dance to our own tune whether anyone else can hear it or not. LOL

Sorry folks, but I have to load the cannons and blast this one out of the water! This is just TOOOOO offensive to ignore!
Oh how popular that idea is!
I couldn't help but notice how many of your other answerers quickly jumped on that phrase "There is a fine line between genius and insanity." like hungry cats pouncing on a crippled mouse!
(It is true that there IS such a thing as what they call an "Idiot Savant" which is someone who is mentally dysfunctional in most areas of life but super acute in one or two specialized activities. However, these people comprise a very small percentage of the population and in NO way typify a genuinely intelligent person.)
The idea behind such ugly and mean-spirited ideas as that is very simple - devalue something you want but think you can't have and then it looks less desirable. If one equates intelligence with insanity then intelligence looks less appealing and less enviable.
Then there is less reason to see the development and improvement of intelligence as a positive goal worth actively working towards.
That is not the only way in which intelligence is made to appear negative and unattractive. It is almost a stereotypical requirement of pulp fiction that the despicable villain is represented as super smart while the hero is just your "aw shucks" kind of semi-educated everyday Joe. How many movies do you see, or how many books do you read where an intelligent and well educated hero defeats a stupid villain? (There may be some, but if you can find them, they are the rare exceptions and certainly NOT the rule!)
As long as ideas like this are promoted and taken seriously America will continue to fall further and further behind the rest of the world in education - graduating more and more illiterate and semi-illiterate students every year.
And that's just the FIRST domino that will fall. When intelligence loses its value, the products of intelligence begin to lose their quality as well. How many of the things you enjoy in the course of your day-to-day life were thought up and developed by STUPID people? Probably not very many!
Like any abstract human value, intelligence is neither good nor bad, but completely qualitatively neutral - it IS as it DOES. It can be used for good or harm, but part of GENUINE intelligence has to be recognition of the fact that life just goes more smoothly for everyone when we pursue benefit rather than harm.

like the saying has it the knowledge drove them bad.so might say Oppenheimer was a little crazy and so were the politicians who threatened nuclear war to protect their interests.so are any people who get excited about war as they know deep down it is a bad idea and is not necessary and what they are getting excitedabout might not come to pass. same with terrorists they are intelligent people who have let a fascination with violence get in the way of their intellect in much the same people do when gearing up for war.

I don't like the word "crazy," but a lot of people with mental disorders are quite intelligent, if that's what you mean. Some of them have depression, OCD, anxiety, phobias, asperger's disorder, schizophrenia, etc.
Being academically intelligent doesn't mean you're great in other areas either.

Just because they are the most intelligent, doesn't mean they are "a little bit crazy." Some may be, but most are just eccentric. "Stupid" people can be crazy too.

theres those who think too much and those who think 2 much LOGICLY
those who only think 2 much ( not necessarly logicly ) r usualy rejected by society and the reason why they think too much is that they dnt have busy lives
those who think 2 much but logicly r never considered crazy...

I'm not gonna bash you.
I think sometimes yes. It takes some insaniety to isolate yourself like some do.
