That's something I never understood. It seems so dumb. And why would sadists enjoy hurting people, or for that matter masochists put up with that?

I suspect psychology isn't up on the latest discoveries as we are in a whole new era where we can just about rehabilitate anyone except politicians and even them if we take their money away.

Well, it's just that these people are hurting inside really bad because all they know is hatred and pain. They have a terribly low self-esteem and think that hurting other people will make them feel better about themselves. It's so sad. They just want to be loved and accepted and they're so afraid of more hurt and rejection. They don't understand it themselves. Sadists... I don't know, they just like hurting people. And masochists derive pleasure from pain. I don't understand any of it. lol.

I think the question about SM is a different barrel of fish. If you are talking about rude co-workers or classmates, those people probably aren't sadistic - sexual sadists aren't just mean on a regular basis, they are only mean in a sexual situation if that makes any sense, and usually only one that has been arranged or agreed upon with their partner. There aren't many theories about SM, except that sadism has been linked to brain damage and masochism has been linked to infinitely delayed gratification and an incest complex.

Hi, I think that it somehow (sadly) makes them feel good about themselves, because perhaps they are envious of the person or people they are being mean to. By being mean it somehow gives them some sort of power trip.
