[IF]

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:

If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

This question is for anyone who knows about hypnosis. Like people who use it to stop smoking or lose weight or for chronic pain, I am trying to use it to better my marriage and my life in general. What to you do to get yourself into the hypnotic state? Once you do, I want to be happier, more satisfied, healthier, less needy... Do I just tell myself that I AM all these things? Do I take myself to a place in my subconscious mind where I imagine that I feel great? Do I listen to a tape with affirmations such as "I am now happy, healthy, satisfied, and just meditate on it?
If anyone has ever done hypnotherapy to get over a phobia or subconscious fear, and it worked, how did you get into that deep state, and what were you told or what did you think about while you were in that state to get the results?

i always wondered about this.
what is fate then? does it exist? if it does, why can't everything just happen by itself? and why do people get punish for what they do, then? like if a murderer kills someone, why do they get punished if it was just in the killer and victim's fate to kill and be killed?
sorry if i'm confusing you, and thanks for answering!

Last night I watched Shine with Geoffry Rush and it got me thinking. Why do there seem to be so many brilliant musicians and artists who are at least a little bit nuts.

Are their brains wired in some way that makes art or music so natural but makes it difficult for them to interact 'normally' with the rest of the world?

Do they become so focused on their work that it dominates their mind at the expense of everything else?

Or could it be that the percentages are no higher than with the rest of the population and it is either more noticeable because they are famous to begin with or do we just hear about them because the mental illness makes their story more interesting?

To be clear, I'm talking about people with real mental illnesses rather than people who wind up getting messed up from drugs and/or alcohol.

well, i'm the kind of person that doesn't really dream a lot but a couple months ago i actually dreamed of something that came true. weird thing is, most dreams that i remember having or have, are the ones that happens to me like in the future or something that happened to me before, Weird! well, last night i dreamed my guy bestfriend that's in another country across the globe right now, that me and him were hugging.it's not that it's a weird thing but weird thing is i felt it real and emotionally intense. it's not the usual thing i would do and it's creeping me out! I'm scared that it might come true too but i don't know why i should be scared.Maybe it's the fact that other people that I hug in a dream feels nothing but hugging the air. I don't really know what that dream means
