This question is for anyone who knows about hypnosis. Like people who use it to stop smoking or lose weight or for chronic pain, I am trying to use it to better my marriage and my life in general. What to you do to get yourself into the hypnotic state? Once you do, I want to be happier, more satisfied, healthier, less needy... Do I just tell myself that I AM all these things? Do I take myself to a place in my subconscious mind where I imagine that I feel great? Do I listen to a tape with affirmations such as "I am now happy, healthy, satisfied, and just meditate on it?
If anyone has ever done hypnotherapy to get over a phobia or subconscious fear, and it worked, how did you get into that deep state, and what were you told or what did you think about while you were in that state to get the results?

Getting into a trance is easy. Here is a quick way. Notice 3 things you see, hear, and feel. For example: I see the black text on a white background, I see a pen on the table, I see the shadows on my desk. I hear traffic going by, I hear the fan on the computer, I hear a TV in the background. I feel my weight pressing down in my chair, the feel of the floor against my feet and the smoothness of the keys as I type. You just keep shifting the senses you are focusing on and before you know it, you are in a deep trance.

Once there, you can choose any number of ways to make changes. If you are a visual person look up the "Swish" method in google.

I had my son through hypnosis. You are never in an altered state. It feels much the same as you do now, but you are in control of your own thoughts which in turn do control your emotions. You learn to control your body, you are more aware of your body and less aware of out side stimuli. ones happiness and contentment is a concious decission which you make every day. Make up your mind to be happy or content with what ever happens, If it is raining.. great! rain..this is just what I wanted for today. But if it stops..this to is what you wanted. When you change the way you think about things, the things you think about change. Yhe old adage ' if you can't fight 'em, join 'em' Is this an example. So self hypnosis is actually just an exercise in positve thinking thought control. When you keep what you like about someone or thing upper most in your mind, then this positive feeling is all that will show. Don't allow youself to go to the negative side..listen to the dialog which is always running in your mind, when you hear a false negative statement, stop and correct yourself, This all takes a lot of time and practise. I'm not saying that it is easy,,no, only that it is our goal. Strive to reach the calm, serene core which is the center of us all. I literally papered my walls with possitive sayings to reinforce my thinking. To remind me of this one goal. To be calm and serene. Do I some times rage against fate, feeling sorry for myself? Sure..sometimes it is just what I want to feel at that time,,It makes the calm times even better. Can't have one without the other. Yin/yang And to help learn this new habit? Read all you can about any thing that is positive, then read some more. Seek out the good around you..forget the news, they only tell the negative side. Seek and you shall find. You see what you look for, retrain you mind to look for and find only the good. It can be done. And yes, do picture in your mind that you have already reached your goals, see yourself there, live it in your mind.

I have been a hypnotherapist for 10 yrs. Self-hypnosis is a lighter version of deep hypnosis that we can practice on ourselves in everyday situations. Remember, all that we do in our every day life, is the product of mind conditioning. You can condition your mind to do anything! Relaxation is the key. Soft music, a quiet place, a comfortable chair is all it takes. Close your eyes, and tell yourself what you want to accomplish. Dont over do it, 1 or 2 things at a time will give your mind enough to work on, good luck
