She's very soft-spoken and shy but is very sweet and kind. Just very naive and inexperienced when it comes to the "dating game" -- has no clue what to do, and just gets really shy when it comes to talking to guys or asking them out. She'll come to you for advice on what to do.

If you were her friend, would you think it's pathetic since she's in her late 20's, or is it endearing?

Seems the term can apply equally to men?

"According to Elyse Rubenstein, a Philadelphia psychiatrist who counsels new mothers, the term refers to "an inborn tendency to want to protect and nurture one's offspring." Almost all mothers (human and animal alike) eventually come to feel this way after they have a child."

Is it true children are in general more attached to their mothers than fathers? if so, does this mean men are less emotional?

There is much speculation as to why a couple is more likely to divorce if the wife works fulltime. Conservatives will say it's the additional stress on the family, or forcing an "unnatural" role onto the woman. Liberals will point out that having her own income gives a woman greater freedom to leave a bad marriage. But here's a thought for anyone interested in economics:

Role specialization. Every business partnership benefits greatly when roles are specialized. For instance, instead of two people each sewing a whole suit, one cuts the patterns and one runs the sewing machine. Could it be that marriage itself is less valuable when there is no role specialization? If you do not benefit intrinsically because of your "partnership" - if you are not more efficient together than apart, is there less reason to stay together when the chemistry fades? If you can do it all yourself, are you less motivated to find that marriage itself benefits you?

Why or why not? If not because 40% marriages end in divorce, would you be more inclined as time went on? Say after 5, 10, 15, 20 years together?

In the current Australian Federal Election, Treasurer Peter Costello constantly warns that repealing the 'Workchoices' Industrial relations laws will lead to a 'wage breakout'.

What exactly is a 'wage breakout'? The phrase is used as if it has a specific definition. Economists out there, help me understand!

I have a friend who really wants a clean house - or so she claims - but cannot seem to get it clean. When she finally does get it cleaned, its just a matter of days until it is messy again. I mean to tell you... if there is an empty space, something (that doesnt belong there) will end up there in a very short time. She does clean her dishes and toilet...and she does not have any bugs. But even she wonders why she surrounds herself in clutter, because actually, she's a perfectionist in other areas of her life. But in a way, it's crippling because she is embarrassed to have anyone over.

Please...any psychologists out there have any theories?

Chile is trying to crack down on domestic violence:

Thousands of Chileans to March Against Femicide
Run Date: 11/04/07
By Matt Malinowski
WeNews correspondent

Safety advocates in Chile are planning nighttime marches across the country to protest the growing number of women killed by domestic violence; President Michelle Bachelet has proposed related legislation to be debated in coming weeks.

excerpt:
The activists initiated their awareness campaign "Careful! Machismo Kills!" three months ago with solemn memorial services dedicated to victims of femicide. It used empty pairs of shoes to represent the more than 300 women they estimate have been murdered because of their gender since 2001.

--I thought the empty shoes was a good idea. (Also, that they took the issue seriously - not with apathy)

Have you heard of any other good ideas to combat domestic violence? --

I really don't want or like to be so nervous, but I can't help it. Whenever I speak to a group my heart races and I can hear my pulse in my ears. Sometimes my voice will be a little shaky or will cut out in mid word/sentence. I didn't use to be like that either. I used to be pretty talkative and more social, and less nervous. I just want to be like that again. Any advice? Please help.

Well first off, I am 15.

I rarely care about anything.. at all. I don't care about my school work, going to school.. I lie constantly about little things.
I just started noticing it, as well.

I also can't develop a drive for ANYTHING. I can't stick to my goals and I can't keep up with anything I do. At first, I start out great in school.. and then I start slacking off a LOT.

Someone said I was a sociopath, but I really don't know.
I just don't care about ANYTHING, anything at all..

I know it's going to effect me in the long run..
Is there something wrong with me?

How can I develop responsibility.. and the ability to care and keep up with my goals?

I want to do it but I'm just too lazy and it seems like I can't.

=(

this trainer at the gym and i have had a very rocky relationship in the past(i'm not his client)but he's a middle-eastern guy who seems to have a chip on his shoulder. It seems thatr he'll be cool with me for a few months than he'll hate my guts, and then he'll be cool and then hate my guts.Lately,i have been ignoring him and even when he tries to get closer to maybe have some sort of interaction,i just put my head down and proceed with my workout, ori'll give an occasional wave and then ignore him from there.Today when he was at one of the machies sitting down,i waved at him and he sarcastically gave me a wink and a wave.Something that i do sometimes but not sarcastically.Does he have a right to be mad at me?What should i do?just ignore?

Joe and Moe debate the use of coupons by grocery stores. Joe says, "The use of coupons in grocery stores represents a means of price discrimination. It's pure and simple. Coupons are likely to reduce the price of groceries to people who are more price-sensitive than to those who are not." By contrast, Moe contends, "Coupons do not constitute price discrimination. They simply represent a way of temporarily changing the prices of some grocery items. Coupons reduce the price for everyone, not just for part of the market in which people's demands are more price-sensitive (price-elastic)." Do economists agree with Joe or with Moe?

A. Economists agree with Moe.

B. Economists agree with Joe.

Much as I hate to invoke Nietszche on this of all forums, he said some pretty good stuff on this topic.

Quote supplied from http://www.sparknotes.com/philosophy/nietzsche/section2.rhtml

Zarathustra also preaches against those who promote ideas that are contrary to life. His primary target is religion, which focuses on the spirit and the afterlife. We are creatures of flesh and blood, and those who wish to turn attention elsewhere are fundamentally opposed to life. Meekness and pity are the virtues of the weak, promoted by those who resent the power of the strong. There is no virtue in being meek if one is too weak to be capable of being otherwise. Zarathustra praises the three things religion condemns the most: sex, the lust to rule, and selfishness.
