I've done something like that.

When I was in 7th and 8th grade I wasn't the best student around. It wasn't because I wasn't smart... it was because of the area I lived in. No one cared about their grades and neither did their parents, so I stopped caring. Then I was deciding where I was going to apply for High school and there was this one school that was VERY good. I said I was going to apply AND get in. Well my 'friends' parents laughed at me and said I wouldn'tt get it.

Welp, that year I did much better on my grade and then I actually got into the school.

I'm the type of person that if someone says I can't do it, or I suck at it. I try harder and I succeed.

These people don't usually admit they were wrong - so you never will 'prove' it to them
What matters is that you prove it to yourself

so no, (in fact the one person who accused me of that has since tragically died - which kinda puts the perspective on life) But I do know my strengths and capabilities. THAT's what I try to hold on to.
