I appreciate our community opinions, but I'm really asking those who have specific knowledge here - what do you know about what economists say ended the Great Depression?

Please include the name of the economist and the year or title of the publication, if you've got it available.

I just know some of you will tell me to look it up. Thanks for nothing.

However, for those of you who have taken the time to learn this and are willing to share your references, you have my gratitude.

(No, I'm not writing an essay for school. It's just something I've wondered about and I would like help picking what to read.)

Can anyone please tell me how to hypnotize someone quickly- minus the whole relaxation thing, seconds, not minutes. I'm not talking about a misconception of hypnosis or anything, I know that it IS possible to hypnotize someone in seconds. Also, if you could tell me how to be instantly put into a deep trance free, such as a download or something, it would be truly appreciated. I don't need to quit smoking or anything; it's just for the experience.

I know I am pregnant, married to a military man, but way before this, and before 9-11, I have had these similar dreams, and its just weird and crazy to me. They always include my mother, my nephew, and my brother I am closest too. Sometimes my husband will be in them fighting, and my mom's bf will be in them. But its starts out with planes flying around like crazy, bombs going off, and I look out the front door of my old house, and see planes shooting at eachother, and shooting at cilivans on the ground, and Ihave to do everything I can to get away from it, and find asafe shelter. Either I will drive with my mom, my brother, and nephew to seek shelter or hid in the basement, but in the mean time when everyone is hiding I will go see whats going on, and its like more and more planes coming down, and then their are helicopters now, and people coming off them from ladders, and I would see them trying to bomb my house, and what not..

So when you need help and there's no one there, because you have always had the answers and you are the one everyone depends on. Where do you go for help? Parents are very old and actually part of the problem and religion is out.

when i was 15 i had a dream of a silhouette that was holding me down and when he let me go i still couldnt move but i some how picked myself out of the the bed and started yelling "uncle johnny i know your here" over and over and when i woke up i couldnt move at all and i actually had to pull myself out of bed. the thing is growing up i never really knew the guy and after he died i had moved into the house he lived in and actually used to sleep in the room he died in and when i had the dream i was oblivious to the fact that it was the aniversary of his death

I had this dream a few days ago. These two adults (man and a woman) tried to kidnap my little brother (he's 9) and I saw them doing it, and I ran over and grabbed my brother from them and he ran back to the house, and so did I. I was babysitting him, I yelled at my brother to lock the front door and I ran to the back door and right before I locked it, I saw the people who had attacked my brother. They tried to pull the door open and I was trying to pull it closed, but they got it open, got inside and stabbed me to death. Now, until this point I had been seeing the dream through the eyes of dream me, but then it switch to where I was watching everything, but I wasn't there. Anyway, I saw everyone dealing with the aftermath of my death. I saw my mom in court at my murder trial and I saw a newspaper talking about my death and murder. My little brother turned out to be fine in my dream, for some reason the attackers left after killing me.

Certain women have better judgement than certain men. True, but I somehow feel women are excessively prone to exaggerate this very limited advantage of theirs.

While 51% of all females probably are smarter than 49% of all males, the 49% of the global female population who are not believe their husbands to be losers and fools while the opposite assumption probably is a more legitimate one.

However, one might argue that intelligence ought not to matter as much in the field of human affairs as intelligent humans tend to believe.

IMO, 99% of all women strive to control men out of motives linked to personal satisfaction, not because of insight.

I've found out that many women fancy strong, intelligent, aggressive males (although not berserk rapists though). This is all natural and they ought to be respected for this attitude because this probably is about biology, not ideology.

Perhaps wishing to control men is also an expression of female biology?

I was born Friday Feb the 13th...I am an Aquarius.

Anyway through my life I have often set aside instead of trying to join a click, or if I got turned down I wouldnt keep trying and trying to be their friends. I automatically switched to enemies...I act nice and everything to their face, but I plot and just wait for something to happen to where I can make a move.

I was ontop of the world when i dropped out of highschool, and I partied, had alot of friends, had a girl I was having sex with, I had everything I wanted. Then it all stopped after a DUI. I literally stopped hanging out with all these random people, and I just smoked alot of weed. All these people looked up to me and I know they wanted to be me. But then after that I guess I lost confidence and kind of let people walk over me because I felt alone, and I feel like I dont have any back up.

How can I make my life good again?!?! I havent dated in 3 years and im 20....this really sucks. I am joining the Marines soon too.

Yeah I know, weird question. But I was randomly looking something up and people have said that you can't die in a dream because you would die in real life or you wake up right before it because of shock or something like that. But if you are witnessing yourself (not really living as yourself in the dream, just watching yourself...does that make sense?) then it's fine.

But I've died three times in my dreams:

Once I had a dream that I was babysitting and people were running around in my diningroom and all of a sudden a book case fell on me and the baby I was holding and I was like choking in real life and my dream and I died, but I woke up right after.

And I had another random dream that my sister and a friend were fighting in a graveyard and I turned into a black skeleton and died and was buried (random, I know).

Lastly, I died because George of the Jungle's lion ate me and left my stomach and legs left...and yeah, there was my demise...

Anyone else die in a dream before?

Or just people in general I suppose. Without a doubt, people know that they may get arrested and go to jail from doing something that's illegal, such a murder, but do they really take the death penalty into consideration?

The reason I ask is because I question if the death penalty actually works a large percentage of the time as it's supposed to. Don't people think a life sentence is perhaps not equally undesirable but nevertheless extremely undesirable?

Some form of punishment is without a doubt necessary...but is the death penalty actually effective?

I had gotten together with my kennel partner today and her brother was over, he had a friend with him. Well, being myself, Im not all too fond of the USA, its a good country, dont get me wrong, but I dont quite 'belong' to put it nicely. Anyhow, her brothers' friend and myself got into a debate about war and the fact he hates deutschland..that set me off. He started pushing buttons, he is -very- proud of his country, moreso than any American Ive met, and he thinks everyone is this way. So, to ease my mind Ive come here to ask how many that live in their country take so much pride in it that they would not only research its accomplishments but hate another country from researching? Or, easily put, have a strong passion for 'their' country.

Its not really something out there, you can never tell I have it if you meet me. Its just that, I think highly of myself. Whenever I can't complete a task and my father reminds me to finish it and I don't come through in the end, I tend to blame the people that are the closest to me, and care about me(my dad, or my sister, my uncle etc). I am a extremely nice person and I always apologize to my family if I ever hurt their feelings. Whats weird is that I don't do this to my freinds or people that I meet in my daily life. Its just that I turn I against the only people who have a stake in my well being, happiness, and success. What can I do to make this never happen again?

For the past few months I have been having conflicting thoughts whether if I am a confident person or not. At times I feel confident, I would look in a mirror and I would feel good at the person staring back, but other times I feel as if my confidence certainly vanished.

Is it possible that a person can feel confident one day and not the other? Is confidence just a matter of thought that our brain plays tricks on us?

I am a 20 year old student in college, so I guess I am at an age where things can seem very confusing.

I'm a very outgoing person but I have an accent because I'm not american and that right there has made me very self concious to the point that I hate it when I have to read/speak infront of people because I don't want them to laugh at me. I get embarrased SO easily, it's kind of funny. Sometimes I avoid saying the things that I really want to say (for the same reason). IT's so stupid because my accent is not even bad. You can clearly understand what I'm saying. But sometimes I feel like people are not listening to what I"m saying but how I'm saying it.
ugh! How can I get over this?
I need to stop getting nervous when it comes to reading infront of a large group of people because that's when I start messing up,but when I'm just being myself you can't really notice my accent.

ok, so i have this problem and it's actually only with my parents. I get along with them both just fine, but when it comes to them eating, if i even hear the fork "clank" against a plate, i get SUPER pissed and my stepdad, well, he eats like a ****** savage anyways, and that makes me SOOO mad. what can i or should i do so i can handle this? You can't say "leave the room" because we eat dinner together. I don't say anything because it's rude, but once in a while I just BLOW up and it's all because of them eating! what is this?
