Don't be afraid. You are not in that shell (your body) when you pass away. I had surgery in 1998 and was dead and they revived me. I floated above my body & watched as they worked trying to get me to breathe. The doctors finally did a heart massage and the old ticker started to work again. I had no pain till I got back in the body. I guess it wasn't my time to go. But I'm ready anytime...No big deal. Now if you have some unresolved issues on this plain of existence, you might hang around as a spirit (ghost) until they are resolved.
We currently live in a house with a spirit, we think his name is "Eddie."
Go take a walk in the park, talk to God.

When you die, you are permeated with an overwhelming sense of peace, love and clarity. Your thoughts transcend human barriers and expand in all directions. You remember your pre-birth and the existence you had before you decided to be born as a limited human being.
You recall that not only do you feel and know pure love and light, but that you ARE pure love and light. Fear does not exist.
You recall that time and space are only illusions.
Eternity is not an unbroken line of time extending forever. Eternity is the absence of time. Since time does not exist, you are eternal. You have always been and shall always be.
Your humanity now, that appears so real and important, is only a play manufactured by your own spirit and the creator. It is like a day-long visit to a theme park, nothing more. When you die is when you return to true life and living.
In reality, it is impossible for you to die. You cannot.
However, this life is not reality. It is only Maya or illusion.
Albert Einstein said,
"Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one."
and
"Time and space are modes by which we think and not conditions in which we live."
The Chinese have a saying that goes something like,
"When a baby is born into the world, the family and friends rejoice and the baby cries alone.
When an old man dies, the family and friends cry, and the old man rejoices alone."
After so many lifetimes, I look forward to my departure home with affection and excitement. Physical death is fun.

It really depends on HOW you die.
If you go by a gunshot to the head, I'd imagine its quite painless....
Heart attack, seizure, cancer..now those people are dying too but its pretty long and drawn out.
The moment you die, well if its painful right before then Im sure it feels like a release, no pain.
As far as feeling suffocated in the grave - that all depends on what you believe. Many people have faith that your soul (or mind if you want, concious self) doesnt stay attached to the body but goes into an afterlife.
I highly suggest reading the New Testament, and talking to a pastor.
God Bless.

If you don't believe in an afterlife, you won't need to worry about any of this. When you die, you lose consciousness, so you won't ever be aware of anything happening to your physical body. The problem is if you believe in a soul surviving your body, and if you believe in a hell or purgatory. In that case, you may always be fearful that that is what will happen to you. If so, you should see a minister or priest to discuss what to do so that you don't worry.

OMG I know EXACTLY how you feel!!! I hate even talking about this because I feel embarassed about it, but I get panic/anxiety attacks when I think about it too much. It's like somehow I obsess myself with this awful thought of being gone FOREVER, ETERNITY and I get so freaked out and go crazy. I don't know how to get over it or how I can get help. I just try to busy myself with other things so I don't have to think about it. I can't tell you not to be scared because I'd be a hypocrite. Just try not to think about it. The worst is waking up in the middle of the night and immediately start to freak out. This is also why I hate sleeping in total darkness because it makes me think of waking up in a coffin. Darkness makes me feel claustrophobic. I hope you just try to busy yourself and be around your friends so as not to think about such awful thoughts. Best wishes!

death is a messenger of joy; wherefore does thou grieve?
believe all of us - utter blissfulness. u dont feel a thing! your soul will travel upwards to the world of god and its truly heavenly. no worries as there is no hellfire. be assured for this is indeed the most special journey of this earthly life to the great spiritual life ahead.
look at the baby in the womb - waiting to get out to the next world. it gives out a cry of joy when it is born to this world.
same analogy! take care love u

Just returned from my grand mothers funeral, she seem to have had a calm about her prior to death. She seem so peaceful. I thought she'd live for ever.
This is something that everyone will encounter. The unknown is what most of us fear. It is truly a mystery to all men.
One thing is for certain for me, I do not want to suffer from chronic illness where I can not care for myself.
