Younger people seem to act emotionally while adults tend to use logic to solve their problems. Why is this? What are some examples of this in real life? Which group is more "attractive"?

Can't people see that some people just should not be out and about in society? We no longer have lots of very insane people committed. There are many pszophrenics and people with serious mood and personality disorders out in our society. This is not safe! How can we humanely commit insane people again?

Have any of you been hurt, attacked, or wounded by a mentally ill person?
I have.

I find that many men who try to bring up the issue of violence against men at the hands of women are often called p*ssies, wimps, cowards, etc. This is a rising issue apparently and deserves the kind of attention that violence against women rants are receiving. I keep hearing more and more stories about women killing and sexually abusing their boyfriends or husbands it's disturbing...just recently I heard about a GA woman who tried to set her boyfriends genitals on fire and we all know about the stories of women cutting off male-appendages. What do you think of this rising social dilemna?

I have noticed that women always compare themselves to other women based upon their clothing.

I know one person in particular and she always looks down upon me for the way that I dress. She was not working before and now is and has better clothes. So, I think that she has an inferiority complex.

Its hard being around her because of her attitude. I try to ignore it and stay away but its hard because she is my parent's friend.

She looks down upon me because of my life also - I am divorced and my child does not live with me. She is happily married and now is working. She has two children (boy/ girl) and both are doing well.

The picture of the VT gunman emerges as a person with a devastating mental illness, a paranoia which was not caused by his family or anybody else. It was a disorder of the brain chemistry, making him believe that everybody hated and wanted to torment him.
I am sure his family feels horrible over this, and I am equally sure that they bear no responsibility for it . It was simply their misfortune to be his family. They are victims as much as the families of the murder victims. I would like to express my sympathy for them. Anybody else?

How common is it? I can see three possible scenarios:

1. She is trying to extort money from a wealthy guy.
In this case, the charge might never become known.

2. She just doesn't like the person for some reason and is choosing this method to damage the person.

3. A young girl who becomes pregnant might claim rape to avoid admitting that she had engaged in consensual sex.

A 2005 United Nations report called for a doubling of foreign aid to poor countries as the means to reduce poverty. Yet the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to a for-profit microloan bank and its founder, an apparent vindication of the ideas of Peter T. Bauer, Henry Hazlitt, Deepak Lal, and others. As Bauer wrote, “Development aid, far from being necessary to rescue poor societies from a vicious circle of poverty, is far more likely to keep them in that state.… Emergence from poverty requires effort, firmly established property rights, and productive investment.”

There's no simple answer anywhere, and no one place to point the finger of blame, but IF the purchase of a handgun in Virginia had not been quite so easy a thing for someone with a history of mental instability to do, perhaps things might have gone differently. It is senseless to rely on the answer provided by the individual seeking to purchase a handgun as to whether or not he/she has ever been treated for mental illness. It's obvious that this will not be a truthful answer, in such a case as the one we've just seen. What kind of system could be initiated to link a person's history of violent tendencies and mental instability to his/her official record, when these have not been reported in connection with actual crimes?

I had a birthday this week and nobody at work acknowledged it but my immediate supervisor. She gave me a box of chocolates saying that she didn't have time to go shopping so she just grabbed something out of her kitchen cupboard. She must have had them a while because they tasted rancid. Now who doesn't go shopping at least 2 or 3 times a week.? II don't believe that she couldn't find a few minutes to stop at a store. And why did she have to make a point of even mentioning that aspect? Why didn't anyone else acknowledge my birthday? When other workers have a birthday, we all get together for a little party in the break room.

Also recently I made some cookies and brought them in to share. I put them in a nice basket and left them in the break room. At the end of the day, they were all still there! I just wanted to know if anyone might have some theories as to what's going on here?

I've got this question for those trying to figure out what it is we can do to prevent situations like Virgina Tech. from ever happening again. I've been hearing that we (USA) seem to be the only country in the world that seems to have a problem like this. Why? As far as I know mental illness isn't limited to the USA its somthing that effects people all over the world, in every country.........so why don't you hear about mentally ill people in other countries going on rampages like we witness occasionally here at home. This country prides itself on being the leader of helping the world ect. Maybe it's time we took a real hard look at ourselves realizing we are going down a wrong path someplace and see why other countries aren't having this horrific problem...........MLJ
