Social Science - 21 March 2007

We can be prejudice against people with big noses, or who are ugly, or who are short, or who are fat, or who are handicapped, etc.. We cannot be prejudice against people of race or religion or sexual gender or sexual lifestyle.

Why do we have these differences in life?

Isn't non-acceptance wrong, no matter what? If someone laughs at me because i have a big nose, which i do, and i hate it, can't i laugh at the person because they are a greasy, scummy, poor mexican who has no papers to be in this country? Can't i call him "a no good mexican who is scummy and low and has no right to be in this country without papers?"

how come society allows hate to flourish against people, except when race/religion/gender/lifestyle issues come into play?

Is it funny that when you are alone and you are in need of attention no one wants to be with you, but when you have anything you need and you feel full everybody wants to be with you, but I feel I don't need those people because they weren't in my life when I most needed them?

I mean we are all human beings, with traits of both good and evil. How come it's fun to be evil sometimes? How come we laugh at people less fortunate? How come we laugh at people who have little or no physical beauty? How come we laugh at the handicapped? How come we laugh at others who are in a bad predicament in life? Where does the joy come from? Is it just that people have such low self-esteems of themselves that they have to laugh at others to raise them?

I love sports, always have. The main sport i love is football(soccer) but unfortunatley im not very good at it. I was always a bit uncordinated and awkward and im really not quick at all. I still play but it kills me to be so awkward and try so hard and not get very far. Im in college now doing a degree in sports science which is great and we have a 5-a-side team which plays every wed. I know im not the best player on the team but theres this one guy who has slagged me off a couple of times(slagging me about missing shots on goal etc). I dont want to come off as having no sense of humour so i dont wanna over react but what he's saying isnt nice(and its not said in a nice way either) and its unfair. How do i handle this one??? Thanks

And when the wind blew the torn net curtains out of the broken upstairs window, I, and a whole load of screaming kids, ran across the playground as if the devil himself was after us. I was 5 yrs old at the time. But I have no memories at all of anything before that. A complete blank. It's like I only came in to being at that moment. (But I do have parents and photos to prove otherwise LOL)

I was pondering on this thought the other day. I my self am not willing to test this theory :) , but I thought why couldnt a man or woman fall in love with 2 people? Morally it is looked down on to have 2 partners, how ever if you didnt believe in morals or did not understand the aspect of this social restriction would it be possible to love two people equally and all co exist in a relationship? . I've applied and interviewed at a school for my Psy.D. (Clinical Psychology). The program accepts up to 27 people per year and interviewed roughly 75-80. I was just informed that I am on the alternate list. I'm wondering what my realistic odds are for acceptance. I know it depends on financial aid, rejections, etc. My question is how OFTEN does someone reject a grad school. Do I have a 50/50 chance, or more like a 10% chance? Anyone know?

Also - is it common to find out BEFORE the April 15th deadline, or do schools wait until the deadline passes to assess the situation?

Ok, so I buy a nice bed frame at Ikea!! Everyone told me instead of buying a mattress at Ikea buy it at a regular matress store!! So i end up spending $400 for a Posturepedic Sealy..... The first couple weeks it was great, its been about 2 months now and i have the biggest back problems!! Never had back problems!! My lower back hurts so much!! What i realized aswell is that the mattress has a big indent in the middle!! Its not even!!! How come?? Did they sell me a lemon????

Previously I used to runaway from tiny things - situations that were unpleasent, running to anywhere far from there. I also was never able to face situations - like if parents were fighting - I'd stay in my room, and just stay silent....
High school - and relationships - I'd tend to take my car and just head off for long drives, walk for km's, go to someplece that would just let me get away from all my troubles - someplace silent....
Lost my best friend when i was in the 5th grade, god abused as a kid, and a few others close to me, changed schools, put on weight, depression - I've delt with all that - Including my family who does not really love me, to say the least, and is not fond of me...

well, recently I've had this strange want - to just leave the city for a few years -- and I need to do that...

But I am trying to understand all this - and why i keep running....
can someone plz help me understand myself? why? what do i do? and advice plz

I am in the construction business, I just did a big bathroom for 6000.00. I been on the job for 3 weeks. Today is the last day and the customer was holding back 50% payment she is nit picking . She started out a nice lady but she is under my skin now. shes adding extras and now wont pay for it etc. I am alwas the nice guy but customers seem to ues me down. Well today I just walked out on her . The job is 99% done . I was living the life of hell the last two week. I might lose 3000.00 over this But I feel so much better!!!! i WAS GETING SO DEPRESSED THAT IT NOT WORTH IT.

ok, i have this problem where i think that other people think of me in a certain way, most of the time badly.

like with my girlfriend, if she like remains quietish or doesnt speak to me within a certain time i start thinking that she is mad at me or just is sick of me, whcih i later understand is fasle.

but like whats that sort of symptom called besides plain paranoia?
