If one of the progeny has kids while a teen, and you became a parent as a teen, it is very possible.

If you think about, its bound to be more common seeing as the generation of today's parents were the teen pregnancies of the 80's/early 90's when it was hyped as an epidemic. so if they had baby #1 at 15+/- and thei kid learned from their mistakes and waits until 23 you have a 38 yr old Grandma, or if the child repeats the mistake you get a 30 yr old grandma

so while its still rare to be 'grand' before 40, it is becoming more common

For some in our society, it is the norm. Those who become parents young, say 17 or 18, are very likely to become grandparents at 38 or 40. The environment you come from also has a lot to do with it.

I find it kind of disturbing, but most likely they were not minors.
38 is 2*19, so if they had a kid at 19 and their kid had a kid at 18 or 19.
It is kind of sad though, because they never got to have fun and adult time. Most of my friends started having kids when they were 34-38, so I definitely think it's odd, but not rare.

Sure it's normal. And your still young enough to enjoy the grand kids growing up and doing fun stuff with them.

Does it really matter if if is normal or not; especially when so said grandparents enjoy being such. In answer to your question it is normal. Now don't forget the rare cases of 28 or 29.

Normal? No. But it's not that uncommon, unfortunately. People get married far too young and generally for the wrong reasons. Oh well, it gives them a lot of time to regret their hurry.

You're going to see a correlation between social class and that statistic, probably, but yes, I'd say it's more common than many of us would like to believe.

This is too early, though not impossible. There are many parents but it does not look like normal.
