Social Science - 10 January 2007

I was walking along Burnham park(here in philippines,Baguio City) when I notice a group of teenagers playing cards(gambling)and I said to myself, "is these the future of our country".When I passby, I notice another group of teenagers seating on the bermuda grass, having a lecture on their project in school, reading books such as history, science, math, etc. Again I said to myself "oh this will be our great hope of our world/country".The only thing I was confuse is, Is still true that youth is the future of our country?

I was w/ a guy for almost two years, although it was long distance, he seemed almose perfect, but fell in love even with his flaws. We spoke everyday and night and saw each other as mush as possible. He professed his love for me all the time. But he kept a secret from me that he had a child with a one night stand before we met. This caused him so much pain that made him feel suicidal. He didnt want a child w/ some girl he didnt respect or care for. Now that I helped him come to terms, he met his child & in a matter of weeks he decided to leave me to be with the mother. I helped him sooo much with his suicide situation, I thought it was a mistake, thats what he made me feel and I know he felt that way. But whats worst is he showed no regret and was very cold to me. Doesn't he realize who was there for him, I am the one who told him he should be a part of the childs life, I helped him come to terms with everything and I can't believe he did this to me. How can someone be this way

I have depression and I am angry all the time. I don't let people in because I can't handle being rejected. I cry and cut myself. I just don't know what to do with the hurt I feel. So this stranger I met in a chat said I was beyond help. I had talked to him a few times and he said cared about because he has suffered a lot? I don't think I'm beyond help, I just think I have a lot of healing to do and am not at the point of being in new relationships. I feel like I need others validations to be alright. How can I change that?

I have a 17 month old girl and she has EVERYTHING. OK...90% of her toys were given to us, but I can't stop buying things. Even when I was THINKING about getting pregnant, I bought stuff and just stored it away until I actually got pregnant. Then, at my baby shower, people didn't know what to buy since I had everything. My Aunt actually returned what she was going to give myself and my husband since I already had one. I've been cleaning out to make room for more and plan on selling what she no longer needs (we have VERY limited room) this summer at our annual garage sale. I shop sales all the time and eBay for her. Christmas was just here and I am already looking/buying summer clothes and items for Easter. Has anyone else experienced this?? Is it an addiction??

I currently make 7.25$/hr in Texas, in the food service industry (as a barista). Over 26 months, the federal minimum wage will raise to 7.25 an hour. I worked my butt off gaining raises from 6.00$/hr. I think it is overall positive that the min. wage will be raised. However, I would feel bitter if the government upped the min. wage; I'd feel that my work wasn't needed and that I could have just waited longer to enter the workforce or just slack.
Anyway, economists promote an idea of a ripple effect. I don't believe I will be making the same wage in 26 months. But if I am making low pay still, how will it effect me?

Would you classify a 4 month old infant that lives in the jungles of Africa slightly smarter or infinitely smarter than the man running the United States? I say that niga in the jungle got street smarts (jungle smarts in this case). If we fed the jungle monkey some meatloaf and goose liver would that make him a super genious?
